Hello Folks!! I'm new to the board as of this morning. Just got my Maz Jr 1X12 3 weeks ago.. and I got to admit I am having a hard time dialing in the sound I am looking for (Black Crowes, Allmans,Derek and the Dominos).
Currently my setup:
Maz Jr 18->Barber Direct Drive-> Analogman NKT fuzzface->Analogman Beano Boost-> Guitar (merican strat, 58 reissue LP)
Now I got to admit I am happy w/ the BDD sound, but the fuzz kills the amp volume when clicked on.. and the volume is maxed on teh pedal... Any suggestions?

Are you going through the effects loop? If so, put your pedals in front of the amp.

Have you tried changing the battery in the Fuzz? Or even brands of batteries?

If the Sun Face is the only pedal cutting volume, I'd look into that pedal first.
Ge fuzzes can be pretty particular about the signal they receive, so try just your guitar into the Sun Face into the amp. No other pedals or cords.
If you still have the same problem, try replacing the battery in your fuzz, as well as your bias setting on the fuzz. Extreme bias settings can cause the fuzz to cut out and lose volume. Also make sure the 3PDT is making appropriate contact when you switch it on and off.
Good luck!

You may be already pushing the amp into saturation so far that when you engage the Fuzz the amp sags so much, and at the same time loses it edge, that you may end up with a net loss of perceived volume. The Allman sound and Derek and the Dominoes sound is not so heavy as to need a Fuzz, not a fan of the Black Crows so I don't know what they do. So it sounds to me like you're trying to get more than the amp can do. You may need more power. Either that or the Fuzz is defective, which I doubt.

The AM NKT fuzz can be a little on the dark side, and get lost when playing with a band. I set mine up with the vol 1-2:00 and the fuzz max.

I have changed the battery and Analog Mike suggested non-alkaline batteries.. did that.
I am going to check the bias when I get home...
And as far as pushing the amp.. the volume is set at 9 oclock, master at 3-4p w/ no OD on in front of it.. so that ain't it.
Lefty where is bias trim pot set on yours? Thanks all.

Mine is the Sundail, that should'nt make a heck of alot of difference on the volume. Otherwise it's set in the middle.

Ah, my bad. The reason I mentioned that is my fuzz on my CC2 gets noticably more quiet as the bias is set more raspy and spitty. In CC2 terms, that's clockwise, but it could be different on the Sun Face.

If you don't have the sundial, the only internal trimmer them is more of an input trimmer. It will give you a more clean sound. Otherwise the sundial adjusts the bias of the trannies, one way it will get a little more flatulent, the other a bit more clear.

I got the sundial too... I just don't know why the volume drops off so much when the amp is played clean and then teh fuzz is clicked on.

In my experience with the Sunface, I noticed tone loss when in the chain, and it needs to be the first pedal in the chain, if not the only one to sound best. I didn't need that heavy of a distortion, so I sold it.
Try the Sunface in different placements on your pedal board, I think that you will find that it is best in front. As for a volume drop, I found that a new battery sounds best and it needs changing often for best tone.

When I had a Sunface it was finicky if it wasn't first in the chain...

I think the Jr (especially a NR) should do a great Allmans or Crowes with the volume near dimed and the master set as desired, bass down to where you just start to hear it and set the mids kinda heavy and plug straigh in with that Lester. cut probably around 9:00 and highs near noon and use the Hi imput.
