Just wondering how the Zendrive sounds into a fairly clean amp, like a Ghia at about 9:00? Anyone have any experience? Does it sound as good this way as the clips or does it need the amp to be breaking up a little to sound it's best? Also, how does it work as a boost into, say, an OCD?

Does it sound as good this way as the clips or does it need the amp to be breaking up a little to sound it's best? Also, how does it work as a boost into, say, an OCD? I was using a Zendrive for a very short time through a clean Maz Sr. & Ghia. I was using it for medium gain OD (max gain settings). It is a great sounding pedal and has a very Robbin Ford tone to it. It isn't transparent and colors the sound, but in a VERY good way. I didn't care for the low gain/a little hair stuff. I live in a very bad RFI area and it picked up radio broadcasts big time! The worst of any pedal I've tried at home. As much as I loved the tone, I couldn't justify paying $150.00 for it if I could only use it at gigs and not at home. I sent it back for a refund. I do think the OD it produces stands on it's own and your amp doesn't need to be breaking up. Just my 2 cents. Steve

Sounds great IMO. Never picked up any radio frequencies...just a few bad notes here and there I really like the pedal, it gives me tonal options and sounds great with my Keeley compressor, and Timmy. I recommend it highly! 6strang

I normally use it with my ghia with the vol between 9 / 10. Sounds awesome. Has Robben-esque tone, and is very smooth.

Thanks, and karma for all...
Does it play well with others? It could be boosting a Power Screamer, Gristle Tone Manipulator, or an OCD. The Homebrew is the most boost friendly drive I've ever seen, adding saturation without any unnatural sounding sizzle. Will the Zen work well into another OD in your experience?

I use a Zendrive in to a very clean Fargen Blackbird 40 (6L6) and it is spectacular. I also use a Tim and that is every bit as good, if not better. They also play together pretty well for a high gain tone. The Zen is very smooth but not in a sterile way, it just sings and can give me that infinite sustain with my strat. Great pedal.
Shane.

I really like the Hotcake Bluesberry with the Carmen Ghia (same with the Hellbilly and Hellbaby).
