I've been thinking about adding a comp, although I have very little experience with one. From all of my researching, the Barber really has my attention. I'm playing through a Stingray these days. How does it handle overdriven sounds? Is there a happy medium between cleans and distortion without it losing it's feel? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Also, can anyone give me it's size dimensions? Can't find it anywhere.

There is another thread here in effects about compressors. There are a lot of good ones. I'm sure the Barber is a good one.

I had that one for a while. I found it to be a bit noisy, a high hiss. The blend knob on that one is a nice addition, but doesn't make up for the way the notes "fizz" out at the end. I did have only one crappy guitar at the time, but I was using it with my Mazerati.
I don't guess I'm a comp guy, I also had the AM Orange Juicer, and have sold that as well.
The dimensions were probably 4 3/4" wide and 6" long and maybe 1 3/4" thick, that's kinda guessing from memory. I'd try several comps before purchase, unless you go sith a used one. IMO $120 is too much for the TP.

The Tone Press is a great pedal with the Stingray. Mine is very quiet and with the parallel design, you can dial in transparent OR squish. I won't gig without it.

Thanks fellas. I'm still on the fence. Might put it on my Christmas list.

A compressor really helps on the ubiquitous "hold it down" gigs.

A compressor really helps on the ubiquitous "hold it down" gigs. Christmas is seeming like a long way off now. I'm leaning towards at least trying it now. I can always return it if it's not for me.

Is that LP in the avatar your main axe? I've got a Barber, a Keeley, and a Demeter Compulator. With a guitar with humbuckers I think the Barber did the best job, because of the Mix. The Keeley might do a better job of helping an overdriven guitar with humbuckers scream, but it just crushes clean tones from my PRS out of existence, and the Barber does not. The Compulator doesn't fare well with humbuckers clean or overdriven, but it's great with my Teles.
So, I say the Barber's a good choice for you.

Actually the Tele is my main guitar. The LP comes out every once in a while when I'm in the mood. The cleans are SO good on the Stingray, that I'm playing much cleaner these days. So I would definitely be using it more for chimey stuff with some hair. I also don't think I'm looking for a 'squished' sound either. A subtle, evening out would probably be my cup O' tea. Like I said earlier, my best bet is to probably just experiment.

It's good with the Tele, too, but not as good as the Compulator...maybe it's the whole "optical compressor" hoodoo, or maybe it's something else about it, but that's the matchup I love...
