I just picked up a used Tech21 Double Drive on a suggestion from a friend, and so far I like it quite a bit. It has "class A" and "class A/B" overdrive knobs, which you can blend in any way. Makes for a pretty versatile setup. I'm using it for higher gain distorion, although it seems like there may be some nice on the edge stuff in this box too (too early to say, haven't really explored those tones in any detail yet).
Seems like the Tech21 stuff doesn't get a lot of attention, but I was pleasantly surprised at how good it sounded. I won't give this pedal rave reviews as I haven't gigged with it yet, but just thought I'd post this as a heads up to check one out if you've dismissed the Tech21 stuff in the past.

I had one when they first came out...not a bad box really. But my intention was to use it as a rhythm level pedal...didn't quite cut it.

I tried i think it was an XXL (?), not bad, but it just didnt have that organic depth, and dynamics that i seek. Sooo, Sooo, subjective though !! .......Right now, my sleeper pedal is.........i have said it once before, but i continue to be blown away by my "OLD", Dod 250 overdrive pre-amp. It has the same circuit as the original grey box. And i just got a re-issue 250, that i sent to analogman for his grey "MOJO" mod. WOW!!! WOW!!!, guy's i know that O/D is VERY personal and VERY subjective, and largely dependant on the rest of your rig, guitar etc., But i have to tell you that i have been on an endless quest for the perfect drive, FOR ME, and have and have had many of the best out there. This pedal with the grey mod is killing everything i throw at it !! With my Tele, into the DOD, into my RT.66 cranked, it is amazing. It has the stongest, output of ANY of my boutiques, and is above all very musical. By output, i dont necessarily mean volume,( even tho it does put out huge db), but more of the AUTHORITY of the tone, there is this body, and firmness to it, that NONE could match when a/b'd !!! It stays perfectly firm, but not brittle, which for me is great live. So many pedals sound great at home or studio, but kinda go to mush on a loud stage. This thing compresses with the amp perfectly when you lay into it, but stays articulate. The bottom is just a little loose, which i dig. Great Growl. Some pedals are so tight and articulate on the bottom, that it just doesnt sound like an "old" amp to me. Two knobs simple, for me, i dont even miss a tone control, it just sound right. And the biggest suprise, i find it to be maybe the most transparent of all pedals ive tried, the most natural sounding. It has knocked even my Lovepedal COT 50 and mosfet boost off !! Seriously, i realize that there are many objectives that people look to a O/D to cover, and one pedal may work for one and not another, but for $39.99 ( re-issue) and $75.00 mod (mojo grey/tru-by pass/led ) This un-assuming little pedal is a bargain to even just try!! You may be suprised !...........Lou

P.S. , Just had to throw in this caveat:, the re-issue Dod 250's sound pretty bad on there own. Thin, weak, and kinda farty when cranked. So please make no mistake, that my impressions on my prior post were of the old original circuit, and the analogman mojo mod only! There is a night and day difference bettween the old and new!!
