I was and have been playing around with my RC Booster for a while now and I notice one thing. It tends to drop some of the lower mids that come natural to my Maz Jr. Not that it's a bad thing but it makes it sound more "blackface". I presently have it set with the gain at 9:00 volume at 12-1:00, bass and treble at noon. I've tweaked the controls with the gain all the way off and backed off of the bass and treble at times.
I guess the whole strangeness is that when I got my Maz Jr. it took me awhile to retune my ears away from the "blackface" tone, and with the RC it somewhat comes back. I don't like pedals to change my amp natural character, it's a good tone just not one I'm accustomed too. And I'm afraid of becoming dependent on the RC into my Maz Jr. for my base tone. I guess that's why a lot of RC users leave it on all the time.

I've noticed and had the same issues with my Ghia. I liked the RC but have since gone to a Clark Gainster. It dosen't color my Ghia's tone and I can still hear the amp as it is naturally through the pedal if that makes any sense. I had the same thought as you with the RC.....I didn't want to rely more on a pedal than my amp. Lots of people love them though.

I'd prefer to use my Klon, but it adds more noise and is ALOT bigger. Had the Gainster, big box and little...perferred the big box version, but alas as she always tells me...size does matter.

I've noticed the RC does that too. I think that's part of it's sound. To compensate, drop both the treble & bass controls a little to (sort of) bump up the mids. Use that as your "flat" position, then EQ from there.

Never heard the big box Gainster. Almost bought one recently from ebay but the price was a little high. Right now the Clark/Barber Gainster is really doing the trick.

I just got my RC booster today. I've been tweeking the RC for about and hour now and my first impression is that is sounds/operates a bit like a compressor. With the RC on, I lose some definition,( a wider over all tone) yet it does produce a rich full sound. This happens when using metal zone pedal moded by Keeley. Not to sure of this pedal. John.

For me, the RC is a nifty tool for adjusting my sound to the room. I've found that every time the room sounds too dull or too bright, a little tweak on the RC puts things right. I"m very much digging this pedal.

HELP!!! I just got a BB and an RC. I am an old time heavy rocker/blues rock player. I am trying to figure out the order of preferance of these pedals/ I have never played a "boost" type of pedal before so i am asking (even tho I know it is a preference thang) what sounds the best for classic sweet rock tone, the BB first or the RC??? I hear the difference when changing the two around but i dont play out (Bars etc.) so that doesnt give me the time of trial and error and usually only play for The Lord during Worship services at Church. I guess I'm trying to find the "quick" answer here for my needs... thanks Cheycast 8-)er

I'm running the RC last as well - works great there!

Well, I think I've got it figured out. I run the gain at 1-2:00, Volume 11:00, Treb 11:00, Bass 11-12:00. It does add some grit to the tone when on, yet still remain clear and doesn't change the tone of my amp, just OD it a little and bump it. I found that cranking up the gain puts some of the mids/low mids back into the signal. Pretty much like using the RC for light grit OD, then the BB for the higher gain stuff and both together to peel pain off the walls.
