Hey all.
I know i've seen a few guys here mention they have one of these pedals.
I just got the new, re-designed version with the side battery drawer, four knobs, new paint job, etc.
Pretty impressive.
Believe it or not i A/B'd it with the much Z-Talk beloved Xotic AC, RC, and BB preamp pedals.
I can see the appeal and hype of those pedals, they are very nice, and have a cool, pro vibe about them. I liked the AC Booster the best, the BB was too bright and Marshally for my tastes. The RC was cool, but i wasnt looking for just a clean boost.
It really came down between the AC Booster and the Red Snapper.
The AC was smooth and natural, and had this wooden tone going, but it had way too much bass in my opinion. And when i dialed it out, then there wasnt enough Bass. I really did like it, and the thought of having one still lingers actually. I ended up choosing the Red Snapper because it seemed a little more versatile and with the "Cut" and "Bite" knobs, i can dial in some sparkle, or if i want, i can turn the Cut knob all the way down which completely takes it out of the circuit.
I wanted a nice low-medium gain overdrive to use in Conjunction with my Maxon OD820 Overdrive Pro. They both do the clean boost thing really well. The idea was to have a good clean boost pedal with a little bit of dirt, and then have another pedal for overdriven leads, etc.
Anyway, just thought i'd share my new purchase with everyone.
It's a great pedal, very natural sounding, and not too expensive(only $5 more than the Xotic Pedals).
Anyone that has the 4-knob version, or 3-knob for that matter, feel free to share your favorite settings.
Luke
