I gotta ask, or just say, that for as many "boutique and pricey Overdrive/gain pedals i own or have owned, i keep going back to my OLD yellow DOD o/d preamp 250. It sounds better than the newer re-issues and i gotta tell ya, it continues to be the biggest sleeper out there. I dont care what i a/b it with it either kills or holds its own!!! And the older i get the more i hate too many knobs!! i love pedals and amps that you plug in and GO! It doesnt even have a tone knob. If you Dig the sound your gettin from your amp this just cranks it in the best way. Caveats: the oldies sound different and better, the new ones arent bad tho. And #2, My 65 vibrolux doesnt like it so much, but the old blackfaces are known for being finicky. You Can buy a new one for $39.00 !! and send it to analog mike, and for $40.00 he'll do a grey box Mojo mod to original specs!! $79.00 for a Boost/ O/D that i'd put up againt any ! Of course Soooo subjective, and IMHO

I had one of the yellow ones back in 1982 and used it with some of my first post-alcohol rock bands with a CryBaby and a Peavey Deuce, and it certainly made that humble rig sound pretty fair. I moved on to a Rat and multiple cool amps, eventually passing up pedal distortion entirely with a Mesa Mark III for many years. Back in 2000 or so I started studying OD pedals again and along with about 75 others over the years I got a reissue, which sounded like crap... Not at all what I remember my old one sounding like. I've always wondered if it was the years, a faulty memory, a redesign of the 250, or my taste in tone that made that so...

I wanna check one of these pedals out. I'm gonna get a COT50 soon, but I'd also like to hear how one of these old DOD's compares. If anyone can compare these two pedals, I'd like to hear about it.

i used one around 1980/82 with an ampeg v-2 with a 4x12. what a killer set up. THen i put the OD away and it didn't work when i took it back out so i went to a TS-9 and then finally just skipped the pedals and started going straight into my Z. A while ago a tech took a quick look at it and said the ground had come loose. a little tighting and voila working vintage OD. I've been thinking about seeing how the ole girl likes my Rx.

Tjstrat, I gotta say i did go back and A/B my oldie with the reissue and yes the re-issue IS crap. My previous post reference of the new ones being not to bad was from memory. It is Farty and weak compared to the oldie. But fortunately they're cheap to have modded to original specs. Of course every rig is different, but what a great pedal if you get an old one or modded one. I love stuff that is so humble, yet kicks butt!

Hey Anacephalic, i've got a old linden new jersey Ampeg V-2, what a killer sleeper of an amp!! They're finally just starting to climb in price. 5 or 6 years ago ago, you could still steal one for nothin. Now people are starting to catch on about this 60 watt monster!! Glad to hear of it, you always hear of V-4's ( too much! ya cant get em to break up) but never the V-2, Cool
