I want compression, clean boost and mild OD in a single pedal.
That is What I Want. ;D

Hi oldster, isn't the Visual Sound Route 66 exactly what you are describing? Have you ever checked out that pedal? Seems pretty cool though I have not heard it yet.

I want a harem of blonde Mini heads on top of Z 4X8 cabinets. It would be like the opposite of those huge towering Fender amps behind Neil Young in Live Rust. Kinda like the 18" Stonehenge in Spinal Tap. That's WHAT I WANT!

Hummmm.... I think i'll just have the harem of blonds,... Oh, its amps we're talking about, sh*t!! sorry i got lost there for a second. What trickery and witchcraft do thee speak of good sir,..... a pedal with clean headroom, AND compression?? Blasphemy, we shall all be burned at the stake for wishing such things!

I haven't tried the Visual Sound Route 66 but I've heard it described as tubescreamer-esque. I'm not a TS fan. It isn't What I Want.

Yep, the distortion in the Route 66 is basically a tube screamer. I like the pedal, but I've switched to a Blues Driver for my OD. Now I use the 66 when I'm going to rehearsal or something and don't want to drag my entire board with me.

Oldster: See if you can listen to a Reverend Drivetrain. It compresses quite a bit. The later green ones have more boost and more gain than the black and white one that I have but pretty much the same tone. I still like it better than, or as well, as anything else I've heard. No mid hump to the tone. I run mine with the gain off. Too much gain and your guitar will totally disappear in the band mix with this pedal. Hit it in the front with a little compression boost and it really sings.

The Durham Electronics Sex Drive has compression (though it's only available by a switch- no tweaking) and clean boost to slight drive. Might be worth checking out. There's quite a few pedals that do clean boost to overdrive (see rc booster etc.) but not that many that compress as well. Why do you want them all in one pedal, by the way?

I had the Durham Sex Drive a while back and was MOST dissapointed. It had no volume, no gain, the switch did nothing. I thought it was broken and I contacted them and they said it was normal...that ain't normal. Not for 200 bucks.

It's better than having a worthless sex drive. I'll keep my own sex drive.

The Drivetrain is a real nice pedal. A friend plays a Strat > Drivetrain > Holy Grail into a Fender Bassbreaker. Gets a very smooth, articulate sound that seems like amp-only. Knopfleresque. Good call. ;D

The Diamond J-Drive might be What I Want.
