Hmmmm... Found out some interesting things when doing some experimenting with recording guitar sounds at home... I pretty much think, so far, that the new ZenDrive beats my Keeley TS-9 for lead sounds. But what about for lower-gain breakup for rhythm & chord stuff? Just thought I'd throw this out there and see what ya'lls ears hear... Always nice to hear opinions from different ears other than my own! ;D JC www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=465770Keep in mind the pedals were set with about the same output and amount of gain. Amp & guitar settings were identical on both clips...

Hi JC, my ears seem to favour the BD-2. It is not the first time either that I have enjoyed the sound of that pedal. I find the BD-2 to sound more open and 'amp' like in it's rhythm drive sound though it seems a little less gainy than the TS-9. It also seems to have more clarity. My MJM blues devil kicked my Analogman Maxon OD-9 off my pedal board and your comparisons sounded a lot like what I was hearing when comparing the two. Just my two cents.

BD-2 fer sure. Hey Aruntang,(not to hijack the thread) funny you mention the Blues Devil. I bought one last week and just returned it. It was the 2nd time I bought one...I had a chance to put it up against my TS-808...it lost for sure. I really wanted to like the Blues Devil, but I think it sounds better with Fender amps.

First off I liked all your clips but I do think the Keeley BD-2 sounds fuller and better to my ears especially for cord work.

I updated them all this morning, and threw in the ZenDrive doing the same function.

Very interesting Lefty, for me it is the total opposite. I guess what I have found with my Analogman Maxon OD-9/808/silver/kws(sheesh thats long) is that I found it still to be a little muddy to do crunchy chordal stuff. It still lacked some clarity for me. The MJM seems to have a broader eq range. More bandwidth and it seems to have more clarity. Now I know that no two pedals are a like and you probably have a great TS-808. I think that my Maxon OD-9 seems to be lacking something. I actually asked Michael Milcetic of MJM to pick the best sounding one to him and send that one. It seems to me like he picked a winner. It is a real close race as far as these two pedals are concerned. It just seems that the MJM sounds more natural. Probably not as natural though as your Dual Drive you lucky dog.

Well, my 808 isn't stock. I modded it for more bass and more drive, it really opened the pedal up. Gave it more depth and not as "flat" sounding. But still retains the 808 smoothness and tone.

I have all three pedals. I am over the Tube Screamer. It has a great tone but it just seems to be overdone. I am tired of hearing it. I haven't be using my BD2 lately but after hearing these clips it will be back on my board. I like the Zendrive for the low gain settings. At the higher gain settings I don't like it so much. It is a new tone and I am having fun with it.

Definitely the blues driver. The TS-9 sounds a little too muddy for my taste. As usual your playing on these clips is badass!

First off, thanks for taking the time to post these comparative clips. They are very helpful. For me the BD2 wins. It is so much more open and airy sounding than the others for chord work. I bought one last week and sent it out to Keeley today for the phat mod. I tried it out in stock form and it sounded pretty good albeit a tad harsh. Then I put my Fulldrive 2 back on the board. Talk about throwing the proverbial blanket on the amp!! . It's been a great pedal but never seemed to gel with My Z. Cant wait to get the BD2 back from Keeley. Thinkin about getting a modded Boss SD1. Kinda like a TS9, but covers more ground. And lastly, The Zendrive sure does cop that Eric Johnson 100lb violin tone!

The BD-2 sounds better to me. Smoother and fuller. The TS-9 sounded ratty in an unpleasant way. Maybe in a mix it would work, but barenaked it's the BD hands down.

One time a few years ago I asked a guy at Mars Music (remember them?) to hook me up with all of their overdrive pedals so I could hear them back to back. All they had on that particular day was the standard Boss, etc. pedals. I thought the BD pedal was awful. Your clip goes to show what a mod can do. I like the sound of that pedal best, the most transparent. The Zendrive sounds great too but seems to be best for higher gain things. It does give that Robben Ford sound, and that's a good thing.
