Just arrived about 30 minutes ago from FedEx. First impression- WOW. I haven't even had a chance to tinker with it, just set all knobs at 12:00 and went. I did a quick clip of it with a Tele here: www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=465770I'm thinking that this might be what I'm looking for. Classic overdrive, but with more gain, balls, and definitely "thicker" sounding than a Tubescreamer. Even on the high strings in the upper register on the Tele, it's still fat & syrup-y. I've got a gig at 6:00, so I'm taking it and will post results tomorrow- JC

Man it sounds great to me, so fat and creamy yet very articulate. Can't wait.

I guess I'll have to make some samples of the Mos...(my dad can beat up your dad). Dude, as thick sounding as the Zen is, the Mos must be MONSTROUS. I'd love to hear it, although the Zen is probably about as "high gain" as I'll ever need.. J

Well, shoot... I didn't really get to give it a test last night. The gig I do on Tuesdays is usually a big mixture of songs. Old country, new country, classic rock, America, Blues, etc. But we had a crowd last night that seemed to want mainly old country. So the bass player (who plays electric and upright bass on that gig) never used his electric. Played upright all night, and we didn't really play anything that the Zen would have been appropriate for. I think I only turned it on once, and it was for one ride in a blues tune. Certainly not enough to really get a feel for it live. Sounded good, though. I'm working tonight with a guy that does a bunch of alternative & modern rock. The setlist features a lot of Matchbox 20, Train, 3 Doors Down, etc. I should be able to get a better feel for the Zen tonight-

Jayson,
What settings did you finally settle on to (I know you'll probably tweak more a little later, but for now how do you have it set? Still at 12 on all dials?)
Thanks. tomtheguitarguy

Thanks. tomtheguitarguy Yep, just had it set with everything at 12:00, just like in the clips. I should be able to tweak on the fly a little bit tonight, though... J

You post a clip 30 minutes after receiving the thing? I wish I had half your industriocity. The Tele sounds pretty dang fat even before you kick in the effect. What p'ups do you have in it?

You post a clip 30 minutes after receiving the thing? I wish I had half your industriocity. The Tele sounds pretty dang fat even before you kick in the effect. What p'ups do you have in it? The bridge is a standard Fralin Blues Special. The neck pickup, on the other hand, is something really special.... The guy that built the guitar (Don Dunlavey), is a luthier in Atlanta and struck up a relationship with Lindy Fralin a few years ago. The pickup is actually a special, "no model" Fralin that is a favorite of his & Dunlavey's... It's basically a vintage-style Tele neck pickup with no chrome cover. I think it's pretty much based on a stock Fralin vintage, but is ever-so-slightly overwound, like maybe 2-3% (?).. All I know is that's it's the best sounding pickup I've ever heard, in any guitar... Seriously! When other players play my guitar, they always freak over the neck pickup. JC
