I just bought rgb's cream Ghia head (thanks, Rick!) and am eagerly awaiting UPS. This is my first head in a long time (that sounds really weird), so I picked up an inexpensive cabinet on eBay just to get started with--it's a Fargen 1x12 open back with a Redcoat in it.
Reading the posts, it seems like there are as many speaker choices as there are Ghia owners. I think I would really like the sound of the Z-Best, and I already dig the 2 Z 10s in my Maz, but I love the idea of a smaller cab.
Ghia-ites, anybody familiar with the Redcoat? Any other great speaker and cab options you'd recommend?
Thanks!

I have a Z Best with a Texas heat and a Celestion 12H30. I'm no speaker guru, but whenever i play my Ghia through it I get loads of compliments.

I have a 2x10 combo and sometimes use a Celestion v30 closed back cab.. very open and bright; or a Redcoat Cannabis Rex in an open back cab..full with great lows.
Seems to me I saw that cab on ebay with a Redcoat Wizard. If that's the case it should sound like a v30; in other words very good. Welcome to Ghia Heaven, you'll find all you need to know right here.

Thanks for buying the Ghia, Steve! I'll definitely miss it.....it's a great amp! If I wasn't so hell-bent on trying one of Bob Reinhardt's amps, (or if I were a rich man), I'd never have parted with it. Luckily, due to Z's consistency with his amp builds, I can always replace it some day, if needed!
....now to your question! My favorite speaker/cab combo with your new amp was the blonde, retro 1x12, (old-style Z "clone"), that Zane's brother built, loaded with a Cannabis Rex. Just a perfect match, IMO.....and I tried quite a few different combinations. The C Rex even beat out the Celestion Heritage drivers I tried.....and they were almost 3x the price!
I really love the C Rex.....probably one of the best speaker values out there!
Enjoy that "new" Ghia, my friend!

just use your Maz as a cabinet, when I got my ghia head I went and dumped like 5 hundy on a 2-10 cab when I already had my Mazerati 2-10, now I carry the Ghia head as a back up in my trunk and sometimes use it when the room is really small, I just plug it into the Mazerati cabinet and I am off.

Congrats on your "new" Ghia. I just purchased one a few weeks ago and I'm having a great time with it. Can't help you with the Redcoat though. Since I have owned it I have run mine through:
1) My Vicky Double Deluxe => Weber 12A150\12A150B => Big and bold 2) My Maz JR 1x12 combo => Cele Blue => Full with chime and compression. Very nice combo. 3) My DRRI => Weber 12F150B => Hard to describe but a nice sound. 4) My homemade 2x12 open back cab => Jensen C12K\Weber 12A150W => Nice tight lows with the high powered ceramic combined with compression, crunch and warmth from the Weber alnico. This cab, along with the single Blue in the Maz are the ones that seem to bring out the unique character of the Ghia best. Someday I'll probably replace the C12K with a Weber or Eminance ceramic of one flavor or another.
It's a fun amp. Enjoy.

Hey Cosmo congrats on your purchase. I use my ghia w/ 2 Eminence Redcoat Private Jacks in my zbest and it gets some sweet rock tones. I have a 2x10 earcandy w/ Z 10's that I use as well for rock and blues. You get quite a range of tonal possibilities with the ghia and various speaker cabs.

There's just one word that describes a Ghia with a Celestion Blue - "magic".
