I've got a great old boss dm-3 made in japan which i'm very happy with by the way etc. In any case, i've been powering it by this cheap power adapter thing, which can be set to 9 volts.
It's been working fine except that when i turn the "repeat rate" knob the LED indicator gets dimmer the more i turn it clockwise (so the rate is quicker i.e. shorter delay) and brighter the more i turn it anticlockwise (longer delay). When i power it with a battery this doesn't happen, the LED is just red, doesn't matter where i set the rate knob.
It does say "Use Boss ACA adaptor only" but i'm obviously suspicious of this. I was wondering if it does actual damage to the pedal to power it with another companies' adaptor, especially with the above problem. I want to know if it's worth it to fork out for the boss adaptor. Thanks
Nick

Hi NickG, it doesn't look good that it is doing that. The boss adpators do work the best for their pedals. How is the sound when using the adaptor compared to using the battery? The other thing I would say is that the DM-3 is some what of a collectable pedal and is a great sounding one at that. If you have any doubts about the power supply you are using I would try to find something better to protect your investment. It does sound to me like it is not providing steady power very well or that the power it is producing is not regulated. See if you can find a used one on Ebay. It would be better to be safe than sorry.

Hey thanks aruntang. The sound is pretty much the same but you're right- better safe than sorry. The dm-3 is a great pedal and i wouldn't want to ruin it. Thanks again Nick

Thanks Nick www.voodoolab.com/pedalpower_2.htmRead the section about Boss pedals in the link above...I had a CS2 that would act weird at times and it wasnt until I bought a PedalPower 2 that I realized why.
