Holy cow! Set the RC, turn it on, and leave it! It just works! GREAT pedal! Something else is coming off my pedal board now, because that thing has already earned it's place of honor...

As much as I buy/sell, the RC has been "safe" for over two years. Never even think of letting it go. Btw, if anyone is looking for one, Monster Mike just put his up for sale today at TGP, for $130.00. They go about $180.00 new.

Dang, I'm really struggling to get everything on my board here... Some of these units are just plain TOO FRIGGIN BIG! That's one thing I really appreciate about the Xotic boxes - they are small and don't take up your whole board. This board is full and I need two more boxes on there! ARGGGGHHHHH!

A couple of weeks ago Lefty started a thread about buying a pedal on hype. I guess I have to answer yes to that question now because I just ordered a BB Pre-Amp. I don't really need another drive or boost pedal but with over 60 glowing reports from the Xotic sales team we have here it's just to darn hard to keep resisting. Congratulations you win.

No worries rc, I just did the same thing...got it last week and it's not hype. A very cool box indeed! I would describe it as a TS with more edge, and nice low-mids. And with the treble and bass controls its endless. Sounds great with my Strat and my Lester.

I'm thinking of putting a new board together. RC-BB-DS1-Chorus-Trem-Delay-Comp-Tuner. And a wah off to the side.

Hey!
I recently (yesterday in fact) discovered that they actually have these pedals in Norway as well. As they really seem to be the bees knees around here, I think I have to consider the BB preamp along with the Keeley BD and SD-1 for my next purchese. How do they compare? Price wise they are about the same here.
Cheers!

I haven't played or owned an Xotic pedal, although I read lots of good things about them eveywhere. You asked about the Keely mod SD1, and I do have one of those. I think it's an amazing pedal, I toggle the little switch in the down postion and use it as a clean boost/mild OD. The tone is amazing, keeps the fidelity of the original signal, all the bass, no mid hump, quiet, touch is all there, love it. Keep it on all the time and use the volume knob on guitar. Works for me. Retired my Hotcake.

I think anytime you can get separate bass and treble controls on a pedal then that's the one to pick. The Xotic are also newer designs which I also think is good.

Why are there so seldom mid controls on pedals? That is what really allows you to shape your sound...

It has plenty of gain when you toggle to the "up" postion, depending on how you set it. You can even get a clean boost on that "side" as well. What's remarkabkle to me is how well this modded pedal preserves the original tone. I haven't played every pedal but I have owned a Klon (early one), reissue 808, Keeley baked TS7; Sparkledrive, TS-10, Hot British Bulldog distortion, TC Juarnig Gristle King, other Maxon drives, a Zvex SHO, and other stuff I can't remember. Oh yeah, the Hotcake. The only pedals I now own are the Cake, the Keely DS-1 Ultra Mod, and the Keeley compressor. The DS1 can give you Marshall-y grind or clean, transparent overdrive and still preserve the original tone more than any other pedal. Wait, I also had a Keeley BD2 mod, as well. I'm still dumbfounded that the pedal that delivers for me is orange and says distortion, when all I wanted was a juicy overdrive. It's got that and more. Hope this wasn't too much info. Find somebody who has one to hear for yourself. I would post a file but I don't know how and can barely make my way around the forum as is. Lemme know how it goes....

Robt: I think you confuse the SD-1 which I asked about with the DS-1 (the Vai one). These model names are too alike... But the latter also seems to be a pretty good pedal. But I am a bit afraid of it being too much of a distortion for my tastes.

A mid control might be nice but boosting or cutting the bass and treble kind of does the same thing.

You'll dig this pedal. See my 6545 review to see how it saved the gig last night. Very cool pedal - she stays!

Got a RC and a AC, love both. The RC is in front of all my other pedals and amp switcher and I leave it on all the time. She gives me more of everything.

OK, so I am curious about these "exotic" pedals based on all the excitement and enthusiasm generated here. I checked out the Xotic web site, found (discovered) the Allan Hinds demo, and bam, I am hooked. So I bought dzghia's BB. Nick got it to me with great care. I was playing last night with James Peterson, Lucky Peterson's dad. James needed an overdrive pedal for the evening and I loaned him my Fulltone OCD. I replaced my OCD slot with the BB. Well, the BB blew me away. I was using my '74 and '76 strats and my 73 Vibrolux for the gig. My MAZ 38 Invasion is on its way to the good Doc for surgery and an internal face lift. I am finding the BB to have the sound exactly what I having been searching for. I am currently using a FDII (with every option available including the new clipper circuit), into the BB, into the Paul Cochrane Tim, into a first generation Fulltone Fat Boost. The BB seems to have a harmonic clarity with huge flexibility to dial in the proper balance you need for a given tune or for a kick #$% overall tone. I have just ordered a RC booster. I am thinking my FDII may be warming the bench for a while. After the RC arrives, dare I say an AC booster is not in the too far distant future? I can't wait for my Maz to come back from surgery and hear the BB and RC. Thanks for the heads up on these pedals guys! Rick
