Also posted this in the cab forum but put it here also. Anyone have Celestion's Greenbacks in their cab?
Thanks

Had em, but they are really not the best speaker for the Ghia IMHO in a closed back 2x12 setting. I found them too dark and the tone remarkably similar to when running a Crate powerblock through them. I think the Ghia has to see at least one broken in Vintage 30 to achieve nirvana for my ears, and I can't stand that speaker with any other amp. Weird huh.

Hi bluesman and welcome I use a pair of green backs in an open cab and the tone is stunning. I didn't like the cab with a half closed back as it was too midrangey. I compared the amp through vintage 30 s and greenbacks and found the woody rich tone stunning- certainly not dark, but then I wouldn't call the combo excessively bright as others have said it was when using a brighter speaker- maybe there's something to be said for this set up? Greenbacks are also about the most inefficient speaker you can find which will reduce the volume capable from your Ghia.

I have 2 Greenbacks that I purchased back in the '70s, and they're mounted in a sealed cab. As dewman said, they really don't do the Ghia any justice in a cab like that. Although, I haven't tried them in a good Baltic Birch open-back.

Re being the most inefficient speaker around, I've heard lots worse, particularly old ones from the '60s and '70s tonewise it's all a matter of taste- auditioned against v30s and more powerful Celestions and Emminence speakers, they sounded the most 'AC/DC'ish- and that's coming from a jazz/blues/rock player. I don't find the ghia too little an amp with the greenback pair in an open back cab- but then I don't like earbleed stage volume and don't mind having my amp miked up Brett

I have a Greenback and a G12H30 in a closed 2x12 (a mojotone cab) and to be honest it just sounds okay with my Ghia. I just got a Z 1x12 cab with a Vintage 30 and it sounds awesome with the Ghia. I'm with Dewman in that I don't really like Vintage 30s with most amps, but with the Ghia is just sounds right.

I tried my Ghia head with the greenbacks in my 1990 Marshall Bluesbreaker reissue. They sounded good but not as efficient as one EV 12. The EV had more of everything and it's in a closed back cab.

Hey Billy,
I have 2 Mesa/Boogie Thieles with EVM12Ls in them. You don't think they would be too efficient for the Ghia? I need to go do a listen here.

I think this is why the good doctor mixes the V30 with the G12H30. It seems to react really well with a variety of amps.

I love the Vintage 30 with the ghia. When I want a change of pace, I plug it into my stock Z-Best which has a V30 and a G12H30. But mostly I really dig the V30. It has a real purest tone to it.
