anyone have the hughes and kettner tube replex delay?....it looks pretty cool to me, and im just curious what you gusy think.....its expensive $500......but so far ive disliked every cheap delay that i have owned....danelectro, boss giga, H20...they all sound very artificial to me......the H20 is cool, but there is an obvious increase in level and noise with it on

I test-drove one ohhh a couple years ago. Cool idea, definitely. I've got their Rotosphere and Tube Factor, so it was a natural to want to try it. Regrettably, it was amazingly noisy. Could have been the amp room I was in (at the old Maken). The sound was in there, though....it's not a slouch by any means at all. I think H&K have their act together, and are smart. I don't think it did the cool tricks a tape or analog device would do when when you tweak delay time & feedback.
Personally, I didn't take that plunge, but since that time I've gone doubly-insane. Echoczar is imminently arriving (9 months or so...wow. 9 months? 10 months?), and in the interim I tried the Line 6 thing, that was fun, but so large and heavy on the board, and right now I've got a DLS Echotap on board....it's totally capable if your looking for "delay." This was for use in a covers gig, so technical and sonic superiority and creativity weren't really necessary, and fills in the delay void very well. The DLS doesn't do any funky stuff either, but it only costs half as much and seems to hold value.
To come clean, the Echoczar isn't necessarily replacing this pedal (afaik today) either.

I dig what you're saying. I'm actually not even using the other H&K things in my "toolbox" at this time either. I have a feeling the Rotosphere, for instance, really wants to be in an effects loop.
FWIW, it *could* be argued that they (H&K) were going for "noise" to emulate the low audio quality an old tape machine may present. Isn't there some setting (like one of the knobs full on) that takes the analog-emulating circuit out, falling back to a straight up digital delay? I don't have a strong recollection of my experiences for that specifically.
That Diamond Memory Lane gets nothing but rave reviews everywhere I come across it, and I understand it borrows freely and effectively from the EHX DMM school-of-thought/philosophy.
If you're checking out the Replex, I imagine you probably already know of other first-class delay units. It's still fun to talk about though!

Well ... if you want to spend some serious cash ... Fulltone Tube Tape Echo might be just what you're looking for.
