Is anyone using the Line 6 DL4? I would like to add a true bypass delay to my amps. Thanks. new

Yep, bought it when it first came out and have been using it ever since. There are a lot of good sounds to be had with a little tweaking. It takes the place of 3 seperate delay pedals, has tap tempo, expression pedal control of whatever parameters you want on each preset.. and a decent (though very basic) single loop recorder. For a while I was running it in parallel set to 100% wet with a little line mixer to avoid passing my dry signal through it too, but after A/B'ing it I couldn't really tell a difference, so now I just go straight through it. It's a good pedal, very versatile.

I've got one. It sounded horrible in the loop of my Trem-O-Verb, and there was a serious volume drop when I engaged the pedal in the loop of my Shiva. This is a common problem with this pedal when run in true bypass mode. Keeley does a mod for $100 and it helps a lot. It's an O.K. pedal but I've read a lot of bad things about it, not being reliable and breaking down after a year or 2 of use. Lot's of guys here like the T-Rex Replica and a Echoczar made by Tone Czar. They are expensive but come highly recommended by a lot of the other guys here. Good Luck!!

Well there you go, two responses and two different opinions. Hope that helped! ;D
In all seriousness, I have A/B'd the DL4 with the straight signal using a true bypass box extensively, and really can't tell enough of a difference to justify keeping the line mixer on my pedal board. I've also never had a problem with it during 5-6 years of heavy use, 50-200 gigs per year. Keep in mind that I'm using it before the amp, not in a buffered effect loop, so that may be while our results vary.
FWIW the T-Rex / TC Vintage pedal is excellent, but costs almost twice as much and doesn't have presets, just one setting like a standard stomp box. If you're after sound quality and don't need multiple presets (or can afford 2 or 3 of them), you may want to check one of these out.

I've been usin one for around 5 years and it's been quite dependable. I really like having the 3 presets and the tap tempo. I use in front of my maz18 and don't use the loop at all. I gig with it 2-6 nights a week.

Been gigging with one for several years now. There are other units that sound better, but at gig volumes, you'd be hard pressed to hear the difference. And having 3 presets with tap tempo is pretty handy!

I've been using one for about 3 yrs now and no problems. I did have the DL-4 and my MM-4 modded by Keeley and it really helped the pedals a lot. They sound like they should've from the start.

I have a DL4 and MM4 and have been very happy. They're quiet, have at least a dozen useable sounds, 3-4 sounds can be preset for footswitch access, it is true-bypass, and it has been reliable for me as giogging units. At $249 new, its a fair deal (thats like $65-85 per preset effect). I'll concede that there probably are better sounding units, and I recently thhou about geting one. But after trying some I decided for for live work it'd be real hard to tell any difference. Instead I decided to sent my units off to Keeley to tweak them a bit.

Thanks, that boss dm-3 isn't actually mine. I have to give it back soon , and i'm looking for a replacement. The line 6 might be really useful, can anyone tell me if the analog delay modelled sounds are any good? That would be my primary use for the pedal, and the advantage of a looper and all those atmospheric delays would be great, but at £200 it's looking expensive, especially since i need to pay off the ghia first (which will take a long time).

Nick, the analog delay model is really pretty good. You can adjust the amount of bass and treble degredation to dial in the sound you're looking for. I use this setting for 2 presets and a long digital delay for the 3rd to get an atmospheric effect for swells.. sort of a mini looper. Of course there are better delays out there, but it's very useful and affordable considering the amount of stuff you get. It also might be worth mentioning that in order to access the looper on this pedal, you have to bend down and turn a knob. Then to get back to your presets you have to bend down, turn a knob, then hit a footswitch twice.. kind of a pain so I don't find myself using the looper too often. Check out the new Boss RC50 or the Looperlative for that.
