Sat. I traded in my DRRI for store credit. I was looking around and there sat a used Carmen Ghia head and cab. Have no idea what year or even if the cab was 1x12 or 2x10...it was black. A volume and tone control....why not play it I thought...I am already here....through a succession of Strats, Teles and Gibson I couldn't stop playing. What a tone monster..you guys must be laughing...I am sure you have heard this before....OK...I am serious thinking about going back tomorrow and getting it....so tell me...will a blues player live happily ever after with this amp? I play a California Strat with Fat 50's and a Gibson LE-135 with 57 humbuckers. My other amp is a 1975 Princeton Reverb. Any and all suggestions and advice welcome.
nice to meet you all
Richie

Yeah, you might. It is great blues amp. It's a nice complement to the princeton, also one of my all time favorites.
Its pretty loud, loud enough for a club amp
As long as you are comfortable micing up for big rooms it may be all you ever need.

Thanks for the info zdogma. The idea of a head and a cab at this point really appeal to me. I hopefully will get back there today to check it out further.
Thanks again
Richie

I too own a Princeton FWIW. IMO a Ghia is a KILLER Blues amp with a Strat for recording, small to medium gigs and home jamming it simply can't be beat. And with a decent sound man it'll play anyplace. If you don't go back, please PM me with the place's info and I'll look into it Curt

so tell me...will a blues player live happily ever after with this amp? Welcome to the forum Richie (mrnybluesman) YES! I have a 2x10 Ghia combo and LOVE it... you will not stop loving it... it's that good of an amp... BTW z' 2x10 cab is also nice with the ghia... and for a larger gig try that thing with a Z-best cab and STAND BACK, incredible sound and pretty LOUD... heavenly with a celestion blue or weber bluedog... let us know what you end up using with it and how you like it... I think it'll really suprise you when you gig out with it and play it with a band... thats where the Z's really shine IMHO... Jason

Thanks for the welcome jgleaton. I am very partial to WEber speakers, and I have always wanted to try the Celestion Blue. Chances are it will be one of those.

Richie Weber alnico bluedog in 30 watts or 50 watts for a little more clean headroom are both very very sweet! probably my favorite speakers and are outstanding with the ghia... But you just about can't go wrong with ANYTHING you use with the ghia, be it any guitar or speaker/cab... you can't hardly make it sound anything but great.... oh, and have some Karma for the Ghia! Welcome mrny, and congrats on getting the Ghia. (yet another Princeton owner here ;D) I used a Ghia for a while with a closed back loaded with a Vintage 30, and an open back with a Celestion Blue 15w. While the blue obviously sounded amazing, the former suited me better because I needed the volume and aggressive attack the V30 had. The blue really did well in an open back, but seemed stifled in the closed back.
Fact is there are SO many speakers that will sound great used with a Carmen Ghia, you can't really go wrong. Like Jason said, Webers rule. If it were me I would consider a ceramic speaker for maximum headroom and less compression from the 18+-watts...unless you're looking to get "the goods" at a lower volume.
