Do most of you run a boost pedal before of after the OD's?

I've tried it both ways, and I prefer the boost before the OD pedal. It kinda changes the "grit" of the OD a bit as well as kicking things up a couple of notches.

I use a compressor for a very small boost but it sounds much better into the o/d pedal to me.

I never had much luck with a booster until I got my Z28...now I run an RC Booster all the time. I run it between the guitar and the amp

I run my boost before my OD's. I used to run it after but I agree w/ hdahs I like the way it kind of changes the grit. It kind of widens things up a little more to my ears (more 3D). When I ran it after it was harder to control the boost. It probably cuts better to have it after but for now it's what works for me.

I run it after my OD's and distortions for two simple reasons.
#1. To get the boost closer to the amp's input
#2. To be able to boost pedals set at unity level to a level more suitable for leads. 2-A. Take for instance- I have my DS-1 set up at unity for my Marshallesque rhythm tones, if I need to take a lead from there, I just step on the boost and viola'!

I did the same thing that Lefty did with my boost and OD's. I now find myself leaving the boost on 95% of the time, and rolling back the guitar volume. I tried it in front of the OD's and it didn't have the same affect.

The RC Booster is a killer! It does one thing at the beginning of the chain and something else at the end. In front of my Analogman Silver Mod Tube Screamer it intensifies and expands the overdrive tone; after the TS and other boxes it expands the whole signal. To my ears, its better at the end--more predictable. I guess if I was crazy(er) I would get a second RC booster. The RC is indispensable with all my amps. The Z-28 and Ghia really shine more than anything else with the RC. Of course, they also bring out more of individual guitar's personality...but that's another thread.

I have a Timmy that is after my od/dist ( Blue Collar & OCD) I also have a Keeley Compressor first in my chain. This covers most rythym/ lead situations. Cleanish rythym- use Timmy for cleanish solo boost Gritty rythym-use BC and hit either Timmy or Keeley for solo boost depending on song/room. Crunchy rythym- OCD w/ guitar vol. rolled back, roll up guitar vol. for solo, hit Keeley for more "over the top" if needed. OCD and Timmy on together I don't care for as much as OCD and Keeley on together. Most solos I'm using delay only ( no reverb) @ 166ms or 250ms from Boss DD-20. ( great unit- allowed me to retire my Echoplex). Strat and Tele through Z Rt. 66 w/ Zbest ( GB's) or Zbest 1X12 ( G12H-30 )
