I am expecting my Ghia combo next week.
1x12 with the Celestion Vintage 30.
Can anyone point me to some OD's that work well with this amp?
I am looking for classic rock / blues tones. Nothing high gain.
Thanks!

I use a Barber Direct Drive and a Menatone Blue Collar. Both give me great rock tones with the Ghia. I use the DD (more transparent) for rhythm and the Blue Collar (a little more mids) for leads.

The Ghia is great with OD. I use a Timmy and a Hotcake and both kill. I use the Timmy for edge of breakup stuff and the Hotcake for medium gain. Also, I have been using tons of Fuzz boxes which work REALLY well. I have never used fuzz until the Ghia. Try a Fulltone Soul Bender for that 60s Jeff Beck spitty fuzz and an Analogman Sunface for the Hendrix, Doyle B. Thang. I would try a Hotcake first because it works great for low, medium, and High gain. Also, there's not a 6 month wait to get one. You can pick one up at www.tonefactor.com for $150 shipped. Sam

Both my Fulltone FullDrive2 and HAO Soul Pressure sound great through the Ghia....but to be honest, I very rarely put any pedals through this amp....you really get to appreciate the purity of having a great guitar staright into a Ghia...
I'd reccomend either of these pedals...I have 4 or 5 other OD's (most of the big names you can think of) that have been sitting around in a case for at least 5 years cause they dont even come close to either the Fulltone or the HAO...
The other guitarist in my band uses a Fulltone OCD, and I really love the sound of that one too...
Within those 3 I'm sure you'll find something that does it for you....
Congrats on the new Ghia.

Check it out first without a pedal - with the volume around 2 pm and tone around 12 noon.... Enjoy!

Keeley phat mod BD-2 is great when you can't crank the Ghia, if you can crank it a cord is the best dirt effect.

Congrats on your Ghia! I'm using an xotic BB and Voodoo lab Sparkle Drive and am very happy with both. I also have an old pro-co that sounds great with the ghia.

Xotic AC Booster - the best - with both my amps - especially with the ghia!
I don't like too much distortion, so the AC is perfect for me. I think that it's perfect for bblues tone.

Ditto on the Xotic AC Booster, also Sparkle Drive, ZenDrive (big wait for that one) and TS9 all sound good. The Ghia is a very pedal friendly amp.

Fulltone OCD, Clark Gainster, T C Jauernig's DGTM, Fulldrive II, all are great with mine.

I recommend the Zvex Box of Rock for the Ghia. I'm amazed at how well it works for me. I have an Eternity and a heavily modded TS9 as well, but I don't care for the Eternity with the Ghia....too bright, IMO. The Box of Rock into the TS9 and then into the Ghia is a very versatile combo. Clean to mean and all very controllable from the guitar volume.
Enjoy the new rig!

Holy crap!
Looks like I have my work cut out choosing which OD (or by the looks of things, OD's) to choose!
Thanks for all of the suggestions.

If you know someone who has a Keeley TS-9, run that through your Ghia.
WOW! Talk about a smooth and singing quality?!!

I'm using my Ghia with an AC Booster which works great - awesome tone. I tried the BB Preamp but it didn't work for me. I also sometimes step on a Fulldrive 2 with the Ghia, which sounds pretty good as well.

My Ghia/V30 produces excessive low end to my ears. You might want some EQ in your chain. Does anyone know of/recommend an OD that has EQ? thx

When I ran my old Ghia with a V30 I was always looking for more EQ as well, Barber makes what looks to be just the ticket for extra EQ for a Ghia, not an OD though. For tunable Dirt the Xotics are cool.
Lose the V 30 and try other speakers and you may not need external EQ.

I use a Full-Drive II Mosfet and OCD and they both sound great with the Ghia. Looks like almost everything sounds good through a Ghia from this post. What OD don't sound good through a Ghia? My Mosferatu should be here soon and I'll ghime back in when it does.

I just got my Ghia and have been trying everything I have...BB, RC, old Rat, Danelectro OD, old Butler TubeWorks rack mount. And yes, they all sound pretty good within their own limitations. Best of all: the BB, completely wicked.

I'm diggin the zen drive ,(got one a while ago)it blends in to the ghias circuit nicely and just makes it sound a little bigger and meaner doesnt monkey with the tone much

Man there are too many to list, but I'll take a stab at it! The Ghia's volume knob! Anything above about 12:00 o'clock or so on mine just adds wonderful distortion. If you can't turn up this loud, here are some that have worked for me:
BJF Baby Blue - I use this wide open (or close to it) for a fat, Fat, FAT and smooooootthh lead tone. I also use it with the gain just barely on for a fat, clean boost. It simulates the tone of an amp just starting to break up very well.
Menatone Blue Collar - Rock and roll baby! I use this for higher gain leads and rhtyms.
Lovepedal Eternity - I use this for a little edgier tone than the blue collar - though it can be super smooth as well.
Voodoo Labs Sparkle Drive - I use this for crunch rhythms.

Love that Blue Collar! - it's got MOJO... I need to try one of those BJF & Lovepedals one of these days.. Are they worth the cash though?
