I called my local Guitar Center today to see when the were getting the new EX7 (Expression Factory) in and they said they just got some. So, I went and tried it out. It sounded pretty good in the store and I didn't do much tweaking, so I bought it knowing I could return it within 30 days.
The reason I was interested in this is because I have 2 Morley pedals (wah and volume) that I don't use a lot and they take up so much pedal board real estate. After I brought it home and tried it through my Maz Jr, I'm happy to say that I can get rid of 3 pedals from my board, and maybe 4.
The 2 wahs (cry baby, and vox mccoy) are pretty good. Definitely good enough for the 3 or 4 songs I actually need a wah on. When in volume mode, it works fine, though I could tell a tad bit of volume/tone drop if I listened close. The good thing about that is, I only use it for swells and I switch to another mode, but the effect is off, the volume function is bypassed. So, that is the 2 pedals I intended to replace. The Morleys are gone.
The third pedal that is definitely gone is my chorus pedal. I use chorus on maybe 2 songs, and I think the one I was using was sucking tone when it was off (an old Ibanez Sound Tank). The univibe mode provides an acceptable chorus (and a very cool vibrato).
The other thing that stood out on this pedal was the Big Muff Pi distortion model. It is very thick and sounds great through the Maz Jr. I may get rid of my heavier distortion pedal because I don't use it that often, either.
My only nit-pick so far is the expression pedal. I like the feel of the morley's better. I have an older RP2000 and this pedal is much better than the one on it, though. Also, it is brand new so I hope there are no technical issues with it. I have always had good luck with the quality of Digitech products, though, so I expect no major problems.
Oh - it has this carbon-fiber-like case, which makes it look cool, too!
