I was wondering if anyone here has tried either the Fish Factory or the King of the Britains?
I'm looking for something to go between my Klon and my fuzz tone for a good rock type sound.
Thanks

About a year ago I tried out several Menatone pedals. They all seemed to have the same basic distortion just different midrange emphasis. That may be an oversimplification but that was my overall impression. I thought they were adequate but not my cup of tea. Last weekend I tried an Xotic BB and liked it better, if memory serves. It also depends on what you mean by a "rock type sound". I think of cranked Marshalls as my idea of a rock sound but if you're playing contemporary rock like on the radio, that's something else entirely.

Yes, cranked Marshall is what I'm after.
Something like Paul Kossoff (70's Rock)

If your looking for that Marshall tone you might try a V-Stack Classic. Lots of satuation without sounding like a fuzz.

I have a King Of The Britains, the newer six-knob model. It's my favorite "distortion" pedal, mainly because it behaves like an overdrive. Other distortion pedals I've had require a clean amp in order to sound decent. Since I like running my Maz 18 with the gain around 2 to 3 o'clock, putting a distortion pedal in front of it just creates a muddy mess. Terrible. Not so with the KotB! (This is what I mean by 'behaves like an overdrive.') It adds to (and works with) the existing pre-amp gain created by the amp. It really sounds and feels good, with one caveat... It puts out a considerable amount of chalky high-end. I keep the treble knob all the way down, and it still a bit brighter than I'd like. (I'm playing an Anderson Hollow Classic with 3 singles). It works out ok if I either back off a bit on the guitar's tone knob, or switch to the 2nd (bridge & middle) pickup selector. I've lived with that little quirk thus far, since I've spend HUNDREDS of dollars already, trying to find a good distortion pedal. It's the best one I've used so far, although I got an OCD for Christmas. I just haven't yet had time to plug it in and A/B it with the KotB. Hope this helps.
