Hi! I've finally decided to convert from an integrated effects pedal (Digitech) to individual boxes mounted on a pedal board. First of all, does anyone have any pedal board recommendations? Secondly, I've been reading and hearing about a number of excellent pedals (e.g., compressors, clean/volume boosts, sparkle drives, ODs, equalizers, etc.) and am not sure how to make a decision between two that appear to do do the same or similar things (e.g., Boss Blues Driver vs Voodoo Lab Sparkle Drive, etc). I'm sure there are differences, but don't no where to go to get an in depth description of each pedal's function, tone, etc. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hey AZ, good choice switching to pedals...but beware of the dreaded GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome)... As many of the other folks on here can attest, finding the right pedal is like trying to find the right woman. One just won't give you all you need.. Anyway, here's my thoughts on pedal selection: Compressor - Keeley or Analogman Wah - Teese or Fulltone Clean volume boost - Burris Boostier (I can't turn mine off..) , Durham Sexdrive, Klon (expensive though) Dist - Emma ReezaFratzitz , Keeley or Aman modded pedals like Sparkle Drive (Keeley - excellent), TS9 (Aman- Silver) (Keeley - plus and/or baked mod) Fuzz - Aman Sunface, Hellbilly Treble Booster - Toneman Rangemaster, Crispy Creme, Keeley Java Boost Delay - TRex Replica, Memory Man (I know... but I love mine), Maxon AD999, and if you got the dough Fulltone TTE Helpful Links! www.pedalgeek.comwww.tonefactor.com/index.phpwww.robertkeeley.com/home.phpanalogman.com/For Pedalboards! - www.nycpedalboards.com/www.pedaltrain.com/www.stompin-ground.com/I use one of these: (it works well for me) www.geartree.com/Shop/Control/Product/fp/SFV/29865/vpid/1738078/vpcsid/0/rid/117758All you other folks chime in w/ ideas for AZ. I know I've left some out! Johnny

I'm sure most know of this site but Harmony Central has lots of pedal reviews. Some guys are cranks and some know what they're talking about. Will Ray (Hellecasters) has even posted about how great the Reverend Drivetrain is on there. You have to wade thru and see what you can use. Will Ray needs a Z amp!

I personally prefer this type of setup, with real effects, as many analog as possible! Now, if you are going to miss the pre-programmed settings and combinations of effects, but don't want to spend $700 on a Digital Music routing setup with controller or one of the other available solutions of this type that are very expensive, check out Wobo Guitar Electronics ( www.woboge.com - hit reload to make the page finish, then it works). They make a 2 piece unit for routing/controlling that looks nice, but the slickest solution for guitar pedalboards I think is the Prog Looper, which is a small programmable loop selector. Very cool. I had them build a custom unit for my rig that should be here sometime next week, looking forward to that... no programming w/ switches, but it's pretty much designed to let me get all the desirable routing options in independent layers all via footswitches... Real effects rule!
