Hello all, I am thinking of mating a Ghia head to my Genz Benz GFlex 212 enclosure. It's got two 12" speakers and is has four front-ports. Really amps up the bass. So with a closed-back, front-ported, bass-heavy enclosure in hand, I'm looking for a high quality EL84 or 6V6 based lower wattage (5-30W) head with no pre-tube master volume (so I can use an airbrake). I'll be playing a boutique high quality SSS strat (Melancon) through this. So it doesn't have to be great with humbuckers. I've got another amp for that. Here I'm looking for single coil excellence, and probably the amp should be somewhat bright to mate well with the enclosure. Anyone with experience with the Ghia for this sort of thing? TIA. I may be better off just getting a combo, but I like to buy pieces separate if possible. The picture of my cab is below. www.genzbenz.com/?a=detail&mid=1409&sid=419&cid=93

All I can say is that my favorite rig of anything I own is a Carmen Ghia and Stock Z Z-Best cab that has the V30/H30 and is a front ported cab.

Cool - do you use an Airbrake, or have you used one with this combo?

I've heard a few users say the Airbrake chokes up the Ghia a bit. I use mine at the house without an Airbrake with no problems. It gets a good tone even with the volume around 9:00.

I have a G-Flex with a Heritage G12H and a Scumback H75-LHDC in it and you're right, it's a very bass heavy cab. The Ghia's tone control can definitely control the bass, and the cab sounds huge......especially with the drivers I have in it....although the stock Emi's in the G-Flex sound pretty good. I actually blew one of the stock drivers with my Mark IIB, so I started experimenting with different speakers. This combo sounds great! However, I actually prefer my THD 2x12 with the Ghia, and use the G-Flex with my Lucky 7 in most cases. I think it sounds better with the "Marshally" EL34 amps, but that's just me.
Lately, I've been thinking of getting some acoustic foam and stapling it on the inside back wall of the cab to tame the woofiness of it, but in reality, with a Gramma under it, the cab sounds very good as is.

I use a Gramma as well, and the front ported Z Best sounds gigantic.
