Hey Guys,
I'm new to the forum and I needed some advice or info on the aribrake. I just bought one recently for my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe amp and I am unsure whether it is working correctly. I plugged it properly but am not sure if the dials are working correctly. The knobs that say 1,2,3,4, bedroom seem to make the volume change appropriately, but the Min/Max knob does not seem to do anything except for on the Bedroom setting, where you can hear a noticeable change in volume. Is this something to be concerned about, or is the change so slight that it is hard to detect? I believe the unit is working correctly as I can turn up the Master volume on my tube amp and it won't sound very loud, but I am unsure on the Min/Max setting and why it is working this way. If anyone can provide some insight inot this, I would greatly appreciate it.
Also, before I forget, this may sound like a dumb question. As long as the Airbrake is plugged in, regardless of setting, it should decrease the overall volume of the amp, right? is there a way to sort of turn it off without unplugging it, or is it basically always activated when plugged in.
If you have any advice, even if you think it is too simple, let me know cause I have basically no experience using this device.
Thanks again for the help

You must not have got the instruction sheet with yours, because this is all explained there.
The first knob starts with 0 - that is Thru, so yes, you can take it out of the circuit by switching to that setting. The 1 through 4 settings each decrease your volume by approximately 1.8 db - this accumulates as you switch to the higher number, ie, 1 = 1.8 db, 2 = 3.6 db, etc. When that switch gets to the Bedroom position, the second knob (Bedroom Level) is activated. That knob reduces your volume even more, but not down to zero.
As you've described it, your Airbrake is working exactly as designed.

thank you for the great reply. I do have one concern though, when the knob is on zero, the volume does not correspond to how loud it should be on the amp if the airbrake were not plugged in. Any ideas why that might be? It does not seem like it is a "thru", unless my understanding of "thru" is incorrect in this context.
Thanks again

Should be the same as no Airbrake in the circuit.

Ok, I'll go give it another try. If there is no change, does it mean my unit is faulty? Or is there another adjustment that you guys can think of?

Alright guys, I finally got it working correctly. There was a slight oversight on my part in terms of the connection to the AMP. However, all is working fine now. Another question though, if you still want the sound to be a little more quiet on the lowest setting, is there a way to do that without messing around with the unit on a large scale?

Not sure what you mean by that. Do you mean you can't get the volume low enough, even on Bedroom setting?

yes, that is what i mean. It is quite low at bedroom lowest setting, but still a little louder than I had hoped. My Amp is real loud to start with, so it has done an amazing job at lowering the volume on a whole, but was just wondering if there is a way to get it a bit lower. I heard some people talk about changing increments and things. I'm not sure if i want to do that, but what exactly would that do and is it complicating?

You can adjust the #1 through #4 settings internally, but you can't adjust the Bedroom level beyond the knob adjustments. Obviously one thing you can do at that point is to simply turn the master down a little bit. If that doesn't do it, you've reached the limit of what you can do I think.
