Is there anyway to squeeze just a little more clean headroom aout of the Monza? I know it is a high gain amp but just looking for a little more clean headroom. I have seen poepl mod the Mini with a 12ay7 and thought therer might be something similar or a speaker swap for the Monza.
Thanks

Put the volume of the amp at 2:30, drive at 10:30/11am and use guitar volume roll off. Seems plenty loud to my ears even with the roll off. I don't need any cleaner than I get and I'm using humbuckers. I like a little hair on my clean...jus a little and this amp can do that. Any cleaner textures will prolly have to come from a second amp just used for that job. Try those lower gain tubes but it still may be a moot point. I truly like the way it sounds clean the way I set it. I'm just not as demanding for clean as I am for OD tones. Here is a lil' chart to go by if you want to substitute some lower gain tubes: thetubestore.com/gainfactor.htmlGood luck and happy playing!

You might take a look at the "Monza fizz or zing" thread--there are a lot of suggestions there for tube swaps that might help to tame the beast a bit--both at the front end, and (worked for me) by swapping out the rectifier tube.
