I am getting my first ghia tomorrow. A 2x10 combo. I have had 2 Maz. jr.'s and didn't care for them so much as they were kind of midrange harsh,no real chime for my ears. I had a Route 66 I liked but too much power for me.I am hoping he Ghia will be better.

The single tone control of the Carmen Ghia lets you dial in perfect EQ with ease.
Post something when you try it out.

I'm new here to the forum, but I just got a Ghia head a few days ago. I am really happy with it - I mean really, really happy with it! I had bought (and sold shortly thereafter) a Maz Junior NR head a few years ago. It never sounded right to me and didn't have the tone I was looking for. It was brittle and harsh in my opinion. The Ghia is what I imagined the Maz would sound like. It can be thick or thin, nice or nasty. It takes pedals much better than the Maz, and just does what I want it to. So I think you'll be in for a real treat - Congrats!

Ive never tried a Ghia but i hear they are great and Myles swears by them as the greatest amp of all the Zs in his opinion.I would probably buy one on Myles evaluation alone as he has been around a few good pickers and amps in his day. Enjoy the Z and welcome to the forum.

Enjoy the Z and welcome to the forum. Mike I had just purchased my Maz Sr + Z Best. Probably the single most well thought out, evaluated guitar purchases I've ever made. I went back to the store to buy a pedal and look around, tried out a Ghia. That was it. Impulse purchase! Take our word for it... Mike.. There are so many amps from other manufacturers I try... and the words echo in my head, "this is nice, but it ain't no Ghia".

hiftbso, brang that thang over and lets A/B it with a Maz 38. You can test it with a couple of EVM's while your at it, see how much clean headroom you can get.

Maybe it was just a process of maturing, but after having a trio of a Mesa Mark III, a Rivera R-55, and a Budda Superdrive for a few years, once I moved those and got my first Z (the Maz 18) it was a breath of fresh air. The 18 moved out for my Ghia, and I don't regret it a bit. The Ghia is the best amp I've ever touched, bar none, even that Mark III when I bought it fresh from Randy's oven back in '88.

I also had one of the coveted Mesa/Boogie Mark III long chassis (all the bells and whistles) blue stripe heads in immaculate condition. I traded an ENGL to Lenny Kravitz for it some years ago. Since I've gotten hooked on Dr Z amps, the Mark III was just sitting in its road case, so I just sold it. A shame to have a good amp like that sitting around and not being used, but as tjstrat said, the Ghia is such a fantastic amplifier, it's the only amp I plug into now.

I have said, and still say, that it my favorite amp of any amp I own, Z or Non-Z and my most played amp. I also have it set up in a way so that anybody that comes over can A/B it with any other amp I own that is not out on loan at that time. It's fun to watch folks reactions. As always .... everybody is always welcome over to my place to play with any of the amps.
