A while back I wrote a less than glowing review of my RX Junior.
I have to admit I was disappointed with my Dr. Z especially after hearing every Z owner's raving satisfaction. I got flack on suspected Z bashing from a lot of members, but I was telling the truth. I got some really good advice from Myles on tube changes and that made a considerable difference. I played the amp for a couple months then I purchased another amp which I love so didn't play the Z for a while, then I reluctantly decided to put the amp up for sale. I posted it for a while, and in the mean time while playing my Princeton Reverb amp I blew a power tube. I changed the power tube and while doing searches on power tubes I discovered that the particular power tube on the JR does not last that long. In the back of my head I said okay you will have to try that before you sell it. I had ordered an assortment of tubes on Myles suggestion and had them in a drawer. So one day I was looking in the drawer for some 6V6s and found two EL84s sitting there which I didn't even know I had. The next day I put them in. Bingo!, tone that was never there. I didn't change the power tubes before because the amp sounded the same from day one, and I figured that's the way it sounds. Well apparently the original power tubes were never good as far as making the trip from the Z factory to me. Now I can honestly say I know what people are talking about when they speak of Z tone. I thought to myself your an idiot!
The JR is no longer for sale.
