I just sent the paypal, have one coming my way. What should I expect? The price was right and I've been looking at these for a few months. I'm planning on running through some Bag End cabs, a 12" a 15" or both. I might have to throw the Celestion Classic Lead 8o into a cab to try. Open or closed back cabs best? The Bag Ends are rear-ported and I love them for most everything. Of course, I have to try it through the 4x12" before that thing sells. Anybody play these through EVM-12Ls or JBL K-120s? I've been a combo only guy for the past few years. Sorry for thinking in type, I'm excited! Pics: smg.photobucket.com/albums/v328/wildricechris/6545/

Welcome to the 6545 family!!! Of course first thing would be to check the tubes and the bias settings to make sure the amp is in good shape. If all is well then I am sure you will love it. The KT45 side gives great headroom with a wonderful crunch sound as well. The SRZ65 side is like a perfected Marshall sound. The SRZ is to a Marshall like a Dumble is to a Fender Twin. I am sure you will love the amp. I always use a closed back 2-12. No experience with the speakers you mention though.
Congrats on the purchase and let us know how you like the amp.

Congrats! Looks like a nice, clean head. 6545 is a pretty versitile setup. You'll really enjoy it. Takes pedals really well as well as different types of guitars. Amazing 'deal' to think you're getting 2 completely unique heads in one chassis. Crazy these don't go for more than they do... First order would be to follow Paul's (trane) suggestion and invest in a trip to a tech for a retube and bias. Get it solid/baselined before you start chasing tones. I've been running mine with a variety of different speaker setups - mostly 212s Celestion V30/G12H30 Weber 1230-55/Blue Alnico (50 watts) But, I do run it thru a Weber 50 watt Silver Alnico for smaller situations. The alnico compresses a bit more so it's not as aggressive but it works better in smaller spaces w/a softer edge. 6545 sounds great w/all the speaker/cabs - just a bit different. To be honest, I imagine I'd like it w/about any speaker combo except the new RI Jensen C12Ns (the horror!!).

Hey Chris,
Welcome to the 6545 club!
I think you're gonna like this amp. Very versatile.
I've played mine through many speaker/cab different setups. The one I've used that seems closest to what you are contemplating is my 112 JDesigns cab loaded with an Eminence Swamp Thang (150w). I really like how this sounds, so I'm hoping that bodes well for your idea of a high-power "clean" speaker in a 112.
With my tube compliment the amp is pretty bright on both sides. The 45 side I basically shut the treble off. So I tend to like it better run through a speaker that is not spiky or trebley. I think the Swamp Thang tames the highs just how I want. I did not like a Vintage 30 with this amp much, but I'm sure others like that combination.
Cheers, Blair

Sounds good. I like bright, my guitar tone control can bring it wherever I want after that. I forgot about the holiday weekend messing with shipping! Scheduled delivery is next Wednesday. I ordered a Weber Bias Rite (I needed a speaker for my Vibrochamp and a few other things, so as long as I'm ordering and paying shipping...) so I'll be able to experiment with bias settings. I forgot to ask the seller if the footswitch is included, didn't occur to me that it might not be. Not a big deal, I have a Morley sitting here unused since I sold my JC120H a few years back. The Bag Ends sound fantastic for bass, I use a pair of 15s for that. I curently have two 15" cabs, one 12" cab, and one 15" with coaxial tweeter. I've used one of the 15s as an extension cab with my Deluxe Reverb and it always sounds great. I used to run a Fender Super 60 head into one of the Bag Ends and I really liked the tone and response with guitar there. Should be good (and if not, I have a few other options floating around). Best I can tell from the pictures I have, I think this is a 2000 model, and it looks like the tubes may be original. I've never owned an EL34 amp before, I'm looking forward to this one.

Well, initial test is not so good. Very weak with some crackling. It has a GE 5751 in the PI, JJ ECC83S in V1, Sovtek in V2, and Svetlana EF86. Svetlana EL34 tubes and a GT rectifier.
I'm thinking that the Svetlanas may have been installed without biasing and the 5751 is strangling it a bit. I ordered a set of JJ E34Ls and a Weber Bias Rite. I think I'll get a Dario EF86 from KCA and try some other 12AX7s in there. I have a few of old RCA, GE, EH, GT 12AX7s that may help.
Any other suggestions?

Definitely check the Bias. The stock GT E34L is a 30W tube and a normal EL34 is a 25W tube so the bias points are quite different. The Dario is a great EF86. The GEC EF86 is great too, if you can find them. Get an NOS Rectifier too......you can not beat them for reliability and most new rectifiers do not meet the spec numbers. As for pre amp tubes I like the Brimar CV4004 in V1. But that is just personal taste on the Brimars.

I swapped out the V2 and V3 for EH 12AX7s for a great improvement. The Brimars are a bit out of my price range, I'll experiment a bit with what I have on the preamp tubes. I ordered the Dario last night and have a set of JJ E34Ls coming.
I see the light at the end of the tunnel.
