I'm feeling a bit like a neanderthol, but does anyone else like the 6545 with tone controls all the way up on both sides? Generally my 45 volume ends up at about 10:00 and the 65 side has the Master at 10:00ish and the gain around 1-2:00. I also like running the master all the way up and just dialing up the gain for the proper volume/grit. FWIW playing a stock '99 R9 LP with Classic 57 pickups and using a stock Z Best. Amp has NOS tubes in it and sounds F'in Awsome! I might tweak the tones a little here and there, but just curious if anyone else likes this 'grip it and rip it' approach?

That's about how I'm doing things here when I take the 6545 out. I like the tones wide open on the 45 side - it gets a bit more gain that way. And I like the tones up on the 65 side too. It's a great amp!

I use mine with the 45 tones all the way up. One the 65 side I have very extreme settings. Bass 3/4 of the way up. Mid all the way up. Treb off completely.
I had the mid pot changed to 25k as well for a more marshally sound.

Ok, I thought the 65 side was pretty Marshally. Curious to know what changing the mid pot actually does. Was this a Dr. Z mod?

It was a recommendation from the Dr to increase the mids. It basically makes the 65 side have a marshall tone stack.... before the mod it is closer to a fender if I remmember correctly.

So what por is in there now? Did the Doc give you any more detail other than swap the pot? Is the mod published anywhere? I'm curious about this.

Nope there was no other info. I asked how I could get more mids and a more british bark from the 65 side and he said to swap the pots. I like the amp better this way.

Interesting. I'll have to try your settings tonight. To me the 65 side is pretty Marshally and Myles' comparison of an SRZ65 with a JCM800 elsewhere seems to agree. Anyone else try this mod?

To me it just works with my gear and style. I am using a PRS hollowbody I. I usually have the gain between 12 and 1 o'clock and the master around 9-10 o'clock.
