After getting my Monza 1X10 BLONDE last Wed., I was so pumped to play out Sat. nite. Well the dude called at 4PM to cancell due to weather. BUMMER, now I have to wait till 7/2 to play the little wonder in a live setting! It's a blast to play around the house, but getting those Z's smokin in a live enviornment is what it's all about.

The thing that pissed me off the most is, that it didn't even rain. It was just cloudy so we get axed because a bunch of dudes don't want to take they're classic cars out if there is a cloud in the sky. I've been leinient with this guy, and next time I'm getting half up front! But he'll just hire some "record player dude" and say hell with live music, that's the way it is now days. Sometimes it sux to be a musician.

Ain't that the truth bro. We've had a few like that over the years and it really sucks - especially at the last minute like that.
We had a gig a couple of years back where the booked band let the gig down at the last minute, and we were free. We accepted the insulting fee as that's all they had approval for that year on the understanding we'd come back the following year for our proper fee. We rocked that joint, and the audience loved us, but guess what? - this year they offered us the same useless fee ("well, you did it for that last year, what's the beef?"). Needless to say, we politely declined the gig!
Pearls before swine, man!

We don't always use contracts, but for some gigs it really helps. We have a clause that essentially says the person hiring the band acknowledges that by committing to the gig the band foregoes other opportunities. A cancellation by the hirer does not free them from paying the band. We (the band) can waive that or reduce the fee, but we never tell them that up front!
On the other hand, if there is a stipulated rain date, we hold that date open on our calendars also, so it's not a completely one-sided clause.
