Hi guys, I really am gassing over a monza 1x10 red fang combo w/brake lite right now. I am trying to save up for one and I wondered if I really need it if I already have a mini-z? Hopefully I can get it soon.
I want it for the dirty and clean sounds. Could someone tell me what to expect that the mini has or does not have in comparison to the monza? I also really want a rememy one day. Thanks for any useful info.

I've got the original Mini combo, a Mini head and a Monza head (and a...few... other Z's ). The Mini is cool for what it is but the Monza is a world class tone machine. It's much louder than the Mini. It has similar amounts of gain but the Monza cleans up better than the Mini by rolling down the guitar's volume control. They're VERY different amps. The Monza just has that "connected to the speaker" feel and great crunch and dynamics. I love mine.

Thanks phil, I had the feeling that's what I was going to hear. I feel like my mini real has the feel you described since I put it on the red fang.
I can't believe it took me so long to find this forum. I have been a z fan for a long time.

Hi "alswin" -I know what you mean about finding this place. The last six months has been such a "woodshed" experience for me. What with getting back into playing after a long pause. Then getting interested in Dr. Z amps. And getting totally fanatic about them, AND playing. It's been amazing, to say the least... Anyway, WELCOME... tom

Hey Tom I know exactly what you mean, I went through a few years where I was stuck with a guitar and amp I hated and could not afford another so I kind of took a break until I could get a lefty collings and have never looked back. Being a lefty made it real tough in the past to find a good instrument until I found the guy I deal with now in florida- Jerry's lefty guitars.
He carries Collings, Suhr , Anderson, Trussart and a bunch more.
I had owned a Maz 18 I had to let go of because it was just too loud for my playing environment and I did not know what an attentuator was back then. I knew I had to get me a mini-z, so glad I did.

Glad to hear you're loving the mini. Amazing to hear such great tone come out of such small boxes... I play left strung right, so it's a little different. High strings on top - but it's not bad after so many years of playing it this way. Keeps it interesting... Kills the resale though... A Collings, you must really be loving that... I have checked out Jerry's site - nice. Glad to hear he's a good person to deal with. I'm needing to add an "S" style guitar, maybe this winter. I would love a SUHR,or maybe a ?... I'm waiting now for a Maz Jr NR (red head) to come in at Humbucker Music, then I want to go after the Monza... tom

Tbird- please if you are a lefty come check us out at our left handed only guitarist forum. www.leftyfrets.net I hangout there all the time and we would be glad to have you. A few of our members play lefty strung righty as well. You will likely have to join to be able to view the threads or post but I know the owner/creators well and it will be less than 24 hrs for approval, if not let me know and I will try to speed it up. I know the owner on a personal basis, have sold him a couple guitars. We call you guys lefty righties, or something like that lol. Anyway it is the spot for all things important to left handed guitarists. I know Jerry, Heck I bought both my collings and a suhr amp from him. He is a class act and I reccomend his shop very highly. He has even sent me collings guitars just to try out! He is a great guy to deal with. Stands behind what he sells and won't ever leave you hanging, he is good at his word. He is slow to respond to email as he is slammed building a new shop and he gets a lot of email- If you have an inquiry CALL him. www.jerrysleftyguitars.com/I have the same screen name over there as well. We would love to have you join us. You will love it over there. And you will see all kinds of lefty guitars. Some really good poeple on that forum. I think you would enjoy it. And yes I do love my collings, I have two, a 290 and the 1st ever made lefty 360, both tobacco burst. My 290 is my avatar. Both are special to me and I would never think of letting them go. You mentioned a suhr S style, I know of at least one "tigerrose" has listed for sale used on our forum. Other than that Jerry has a bunch of new ones all the way up to s-6's in stock.

Thanks for the great info "alswin"... I'll have to check it out... As far as the right hand / left hand thing: I'm a "left right". A mirror image of backwards. I love the reaction I get when someone notices how I'm playing. It's a good laugh... But after doing it this way this long, I can watch a right handed player - and my brain transposes what I'm seeing into "left right"... Observe & execute, instantly... If that makes any sense at all.?. It's not like I worked on the crossover circuit, but it works every time. And that really trips me out... For a few months, I even tossed around the idea of keeping 1 lefty strung as a lefty. And learn to play both ways. Just for the laugh... It would make a great "double neck"... t

Yeah us lefties are wired funny.. I can read upside down and backwards just fine. I golf righty, throw righty, drive nails lefty, write lefty- all mixed up! Please do check us out on leftyfrets. I think you will enjot it a lot. I watch righties and I agree it is like looking in a mirror. I know a few of our members play like you do, I'm sure you guys could have an intersting discussion.
We even have a custom lefty builder on there- lefty lang, I have one of his guitars and it is great.
Anyway I wanted to know more about the monza- So you guys are making me want it even worse. This site is just as bad for amp GAS as leftyfrets is for guitar GAS.

I never dreamed how much money I'd end up spending on AMPS for goodness sake Or how FUN I'd have doing it As doctorice said so eloquently on another thread "a DrZ amp is an amp you play, not an amp you just plug into" - dammit ;D Welcome home!!! Pete ;D
