has anyone tried this with the z28? Does it sound good? ad more gain? I was thinking of putting in a tong sol 12ax7 in the slot where the 5751 is.
please tell me your oppinions?

give it a shot. I've found significant variations even within the same tube types. But at the end of all my swaping, I think I ended up with NOS GE 5751 in V2, just sound right..

I just asked cause I am not sure if the amp was designed to use the 5751. I am going to try a chinese 12ax7 and tong sol , but I am not sure if the tube in v2 needs to be balanced.

...i tried it...the amp was louder and gainier but not in a good way for my tastes...kinda harsh...i think that ef86/5751 combination is the magic formula for the Z-28...

I too went to a 12AX7 but eventually back to the 5751.
