OK what's going on?
Where did all the gain go? The break up? Where did it go?
I read that your headroom increased with the 2x10, but damn!!!! It's almost a entirly different amp when it comes to gain. I mean last time I jammed with a 2x12 I had all this gain and very little headrooom. With the 1x12 in the MMB I had the same type of gainy break up sound and now I'm way loud and really had to get into it to get some distortion and now the boost pedal really boost me through the roof.
Is this the normal responce to the 2x10 cab. I'm not kidding this amp is twice as loud now. It had no issues hangin with 400 watts running through the bass rig and a 50watt Soldano 2x12. I love it but it's so night and day between the two.
Can someone shed some light on what is going on.

Dave, Dr Z's 10" speakers are very efficient. That s the story in a nutshell. My 4X10 cabinet is very loud, doesn't really start cranking until around 12 o'clock. ArnieZ

I had the exact same experience yesterday when I tried a Maz Jr with a Z 2x12 and then went to a 2x10. The smaller cab sounded kind of sterile in comparison, and the response of the 12's wasn't there. For me, it had kind of a brittle upper mid too. I was disappointed, as I thought I was going to walk out with the head and 2x10, but now I'm waiting for the store to get a Z 1x12 for me to try. Hopefully that break up and response will be back.

I had a z28 2x10 combo a few years ago, and just kind of let it go one day (sold to ebay - as it just wasnt getting used). I recently purchased a 1x12 combo w/a greenback - currently loving it - definitely seems to have more of a "rock" feel - IMHO.

The combination of this thread and the new Matchless 2x10 combo I've got made me cal Brandon at Wilcutt's today. I've changed my cab order from a 2x10 to a 1x12. Based on Brandon's advice, and the speaker descriptions seen over at the avatar cabs page, I went with a G12H30.
I'm hoping I made the right decision as far as speaker goes.
