From what I read in the owner's manual, it appears that you don't have to re-bias the 28 after a tube swap if you use the same GT rating the amp came with. Does this really mean *never*?
Having said that, how hard is it for a careful klutz to check/adjust the bias if necessary?
Thanks.

Yeah, if you use the same rating and type of 6V6 (and rectifier) you don't need to rebias.
That said it isn't terribly difficult to do, especially if you have a bias meter. You just adjust the internal bias pot to the desired current.
You do have to open up the chassis and work on a "live" amp, which can be dangerous if you aren't familiar with this.

1. Go to Z's website and read the bias information, and note the values he sites for the Z28. 2. Watch this "how to" video www.eurotubes.com/euro-Generic-Bias.htm3. Buy a Weber Bias Rite. You don't need the full-blown monitor, just the head, if you've already got a multi-meter. taweber.powweb.com/biasrite/br_page.htm4. Jump around on the 'net and educate yourself about amp biasing. There are tons of sources. 5. Go very slow. Be careful. Have fun!
