Ok so maybe I'm just on the honeymoon. I have about 2 hours total play time on the amp and the EF86 was microphonic at first but after re-seatting it cleared up. I then plugged it into my 4ohm Tonemaster cabinet and it came alive! I then put an A/B box and added my Maz to the mix for ambiance. WOW!!!!!!!!!!! I thought I was getting the best strat tones with the Maz and even the Z28 alone may be equal (or better) but the two together is just magic with a BB preamp in the front end. Total thick creamy wonderful tones. I noticed after tweeking the Z28 was set at 12:00 on everything with the BB about the same. That is the sign of a good amp if you ask me. I tried a mini-mass on the Z28 and Ive had a Z one too but attenuators just "suck" the tone out for me. My band plays soft for a rock band but that may have to change a little. I don't think it's too loud Gig tonight and I expect nothing but bigger smiles. ANOTHER SATISFIED CUSTOMER DOC! Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What is a BB preamp?
Bad Boy, Blues Breaker, Bone Buster, or Butter Buns? What exactly is a BB preamp?
You need to go more in depth with this set up. I understand theZ-28 settings, but you didn't mention the Maz setting.
I understand only two hours of playing isn't enough to understand a bi-amp's short comming or benfits. I get faced with this alomst every practice we play, but it is always different combos of amp by the other guitar player.
This might be the reason we keep getting louder and louder. I think he is also tring to get the point across not to sell the Mesa, because it's a loud loud amp for 35 watts. O-well, i think the Mesa is on the block. I think everything is on the block at this point.
Let us know. DAVE

Dave,
The BB Preamp is made by Xotic Effects. It gets props here qite a bit which is how I found it. I have the RC Booster too which is much tamer than the BB but both give you amp like tones and really enhance what is already there more than an "effect". I used only the Z28 last night because I figured I better get used to that first. I will bring both next gig for sure. I will also post some sounds of it later from the gig so you can check it out.
Very pleased with it as were all my band. I asked one of the guys which one he liked better and he said they both kill how can you pick one. I can't so I'll bring two next time! I'll post the settings I used too but I think it was Vol 9-11 Bass 11-1 Treb 11-1. With the BB this just was the most usable for what I was playing but I'm sure that will change with time. For the most part everything was near noon. pedals too!
Later,
Pete
