If your talking about the Dr.Z not that I know of, but it was built this year and I knew where it was going before it was shipped, so it's only a week or so old.
If your talking about the G&L. Yeah, it's a Trinity #4 of 25

Oyeah, I almost forgot. This thing smokes. It smokes country at low volumes and much louder volume, but I'll be amazed that you crank everything and it's all over Marshall gain tones with the guitar pictured above. To top it off it cleans up into that perfect funk clean sound with a twist of the volume nob.
I didn't get to jam with it to night as I wanted, but I did crank it all by it's lonesome.
This amp is superb. Really look foprward to tomarrow @ 4pm where it will meet my Legacy. You guys say the Strat guitar really shine through this amp. We'll see.

yeah, that is what matters.
I think the plate is a col touch, but in the end it's the tone I paid $1250 for. Seriously happy.

Very nice looking. How do you like the sound of the cab tilted like that vs. it sitting on the casters? Do you notice a difference?

I cut work to go meet up with some friends. I'm sure I'll go back through or post asking for the best tone set ups one day, but I'll try yours out today. My budy thinks he will be able to a just his amps to match the Z-28.. Might be able to come close on some but the depth I have found in a couple of days of running this. I seriuosly doubt it. Maybe if we spend all day and he uses all for of his amps. My Mesa will makes all the sounds of his SPL 100 Plexi, Fenders, and Kustom. The only amp it won't sound like is the Soldano ROS whcih is that sound, but the Mesa won't make the complex tone the Z28 makes. Close for one tone, but not as open, clear or as senstive. Thanks DAVE

As I'm moving the dials and playing with the amp alot I like it up in the air like a mini stack, but oneday I'll get around to trying it. DAVE

Fishman, those setting with my Legacy are pretty good. I like the gain level as I get to use my guitars volume also. 3,3,3 is a cool setting if we play a little lower volume than yesterday as I really get to work the volume even more. But, I set it up for the max volume W/ slight grit with the guitar wide open and it was wonderful. I would have to guess with my Asat if would be almost overdriven as the pickups are way hotter.
O-yeah, it does that Soldano ROS sound which is really good stuff. Not as loud, but hey I think we play to loud anyway.
Good stuff.

Dave, also as you take the bass past noon the gain increases as well, I have found that once a good sound is found, very slight adjustments of the tone controls together with the volume up or down will do alot to the sound. It is deceptive the amount of sounds and gain levels etc that you can squeeze out of just 3 knobs.... I changed the speaker in mine to a RedFang, and added a NOS mullard rectifier....I did change out the ef86 with a NOS Amperex bugleboy but like the one that came with it better. However, the rectifier and speaker change really opened this amp up and literally you can "feel it breathe". I sometimes run my 1-12 with a Avatar BBreaker cab with a Vin30 and a g12H, those along with the RedFang seem to have a great tonal spectrum, killer bass response and the kind of treble that takes you back to early Marshall days... Roll off the volume knob and its pretty much a fender Vibe but with more definition. I use a Barber Direct Drive and it sounds great. I wish this amp came with a half power switch, but then I wish all tube amps came with a half power switch. Also, I use a 20+ year old Strat with 3 gold lace sensors so the settings are for that guitar, your milage with the Legacy I am sure will vary some but I am sure you will be able to get some sounds that will put a smile on your face. I have learned that with Z's there is a learning curve as they don;t respond like other amps, the controls really have several functions and the sounds are in there we just have to get them out. Frankly when I first got the amp I thought what the h@ll is all this hype about, this amp doesen;t seem so special to me...after a while, twisting knobs all over the place I slowed down, did one knob at a time and then the light went on as to how each interacts with the other. From then on...killer stuff....I use 2-3 delays ranging from more of a "open" sound to the slapback to the stock Gilmore setting of 301milsec...with various degrees of wet and the tones just drip out of this amp... This amp really makes me play better , I still think sometimes am I making those tones? Yes I am....well, the 28 is I am sorta along for the ride.. I have a feeling that you will find that as well....its a great amp...one of the best that I have played in over 40 years of playing. Play it...then play it some more!

Fishman,
Thanks for the great post. You know I think my other guitar player thought that I got taken with a $1250 price tag, low wattage and the lead tone of the amp crank by it's self. That was untill we played a couple songs together. Then it became totaly clear this was a force to be recond with and I don't even have the thing set up completely or the speakers I want with it yet. It was little things that never stood out before that made the total difference.
We now own the tonal package. We have a duo gig lined up for a G&L thing in a couple of months. Last time they had a 5 or 6 Rivera combos stacked up for us to use. Somthing tells me that my little Z-28 head will hidding around back and plugged into one of the Rivera's speakers this time around. Last time we got a bunch of pics sent to Paul so I don't want to screw the promo up, but the only Rivera I have ever heard that comes close to the Z-28 is the Venus3. I won't lie I like Rivera amps better than Mesa if you have to have a amp/guitar and no pedals to do the gig with.
I have alot of playing to do through the Z-28 to find exactly where I want it set at. I use Fulltone Fatboost II, Analogman Peppermint Fuzz, Dod 308 OD, a BBE Compressor, and a Empress Tremolo {highly recomended, Wayne Eagles turned me on to this thing}... So, I have to find where I can get the full range of everything out of it.

I as well have no problem with Rivera's, and I have had a few..A Chris Duarte 1-15, Rake reverb head and matching cab(wish I still had that one), 2 of the 4-10 combos, one I think if I remember was 60 watts, the other 100....great amps, but even at the time I remember thinking , "there are just too many settings to mess with" I really did like the rake set up though..that one was pretty easy to get a sound out of. Now, I would not go back to amps that take that much tweaking....for the folks that are into that sort of thing great...I just thought I had to work too hard. I come from the Blackface Fender era, Marshall Plexis, Vox Superbeatles, AC30;'s etc etc etc....in a sense it was almost impossible to get bad sounds from these amps....we did not understand the interaction between controls or what did what. Had no reason to bother with that, pretty much turned them on, cranked em up and the always sounded good, and always delivered....Much has been said of old fenders , marshalls, vox, etc as far as reliability issues are concerned. But , I was playing them new and they worked great!..... All pretty much no-brainers...the sounds were built in, all you had to do was turn the amp on and there is was... I guess thats why I like Z's , they remind me a whole lot of the old amps I used to play. They are easy to use, but also deceptively complex in a simple way....if that makes any sense at all. The proof is in the sound, and Z's are 100 proof! I have sold off most of my old stock amps, and held a few for sentimental reasons. I would like one more Z amp and am thinking along the lines of a Prescription RX, but that is open at this point. I was going to get annother 28 and still might...its a tuff call. I still look at amps as I am addicted to them, but I don;t look to buy...I appericate good amps, and there are several to choose from. For me, the search has finally ended, I like the sound I have now, everyone else likes it, all the band guys say its the best sound I ever had and I have been with these guys 25+ years. They all love the Z's, espicially the drummer, which I find a bit odd. Enjoy the amp it really is as I have said one of the best amps I have ever played regardless of price. Mike
