Hi all!
I have been using my Monza at rehearsals the last couple of weeks. Today I noticed that with the guitar volume all the way down, the amp makes a continuous "whooshing" noise. I'm thinking this may be normal, because I have the Drive knob near max (if you haven't done this with a guitar packing vintage style humbuckers, you really need to). I am using the Air Brake on a couple of clicks. Lessing the attenuation doesn't help, but a buffered bypass OD pedal (Reverend Drivetrain 2) will make it worse (pedal not on, just in the signal chain) than a true bypass Fulltone OCD (pedal not on, just in the signal chain).
I am thinking this is just normal "dude you have the gain maxed, so get real" type noise, or dirty power at our new rehearsal space. It isn't LOUD, but it's there. And I can't find a reference to it here on Z-Talk.
Help a Z-Brother out, please.

So nobody has encountered this? Tubes? High gain? Dirty power? No guesses? I just don't wanna hurt the little surf green beastie.

Hey bro, I'm no tech expert, and I don't have a Monza (yet!), but it sounds like you might have dirty power to be honest. I'm guessing that when you play, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the sound you're getting, or the volume? The other thing to consider are you guitar cables. Are you using nice, new high quality ones to go with your nice new high quality amp? If not, why not? Seriously, the cables make a BIG difference, especially at high gain settings. What happens when you pull the guitar cable out completely - just amp? Have you tried all this in a different place from your rehearsal room? Others may have different ideas, and much more experience/wisdom than me, but these things definitely matter. Lete us know Cheers Pete ;D

It has a high noise floor. My head does it. Just the way it is. Sometimes tubes can add to this but mine has stayed the same level with tube changes. Welcome to vintage tone "noise floor" hehe. The more volume/gain the higher the woosh too.

Thanks, guys. I thought it was the nature of this particular beast, but wanted to be sure.
For those of you reading this and wondering: it's not really all that loud (the whoosing, that is). It's just that it is there when you care to listen for it.
The Monza is a toneful beast, and an instrument unto itself. I have had to learn to play mine. It's astonishing what you can get out of it.

There we go! I knew someone more knowledgeable than me would answer your problem ;D Also good to know for when I get my Monza and don't waste time following my own advice Enjoy! Pete ;D

I had a wooshing sound too, I replaced the tube in V2 and it went away That would be the Sovtec LPS. I'll change mine later and see if it diminishes the back ground hiss. I'm thinking its the only tube I didn't change. Sometimes it will help and sometimes it won't. I'll have to do it later cause everyone's still sleep'n hehe. Edit: Didn't make any difference with 3 diff AX7's. Same noise floor.

The whooshing sound I heard when I demo'd the Monza was from the air moving as my jaw hit the floor! I am getting one soon...

Keeps happening though, especially when my wife comes home from the store and tells me she can hear my playing down the street. I said "thank you" Todd

It seems to be a product of the amp's design, as others have said. The price you pay for all that great tube overdrive, straight in with single coils. Seems like a pretty good deal to me!

I ain't complain'n hehe. This amp puts a big ole' smile on my face. As I rolled tubes to see if it would quiet down I have to confirm again a smooth plate Telefunken in V1 really sounds great. Clear, articulate and sings them notes out with vintage chewiness.LOL! A worthwhile alternative if you have one to try.
