Hi Z friends,
What 12" speaker do you feel sounds best with a Z-28? I want to invest in a speaker that works well.
Thank you,
Bobby

Hi Z friends, What 12" speaker do you feel sounds best with a Z-28? I want to invest in a speaker that works well. Thank you, Bobby I think most people use a Greenback or similar. EMI Red fang was my favorite. Also really liked the Weber 30 watt Alnico Blue, less volume with that one. For a more American sound the 12A150A Weber is super.

Try the Celestion G12-65 Speaker. It's the one in the Galaxie. It's aounds great in that amp. ;D

Are you limiting yourself to 12" speakers, cause Drz's 10's are great with the 28! ArnieZ

My favorite amp that the Doc makes will always be the Z28, and the combo I had with the Greenback was to die for. However, Weber makes a great version of a Greenback as well. It's the 1225.

Sounds like the greenback is the way to go. Does it matter if the greenback was made in England or not?

Weber 12 A or F 150's. Cone and wattage to taste. I like the 28 best with American voiced speakers. My personal favorite in a 1 x 12 is the 25 watt 12F150B.

If you were running two Z-28 amps..... what two different 12" speakers would you select?

If you were running two Z-28 amps..... what two different 12" speakers would you select? Greenback (or Weber 1225 Pre-Rola) -then it's a toss up between Weber Blue Dog Alnico or Weber 12F150

Let me throw more confusion into the mix concerning the greenback-flavored speakers....Eminence Legend G12B. Everything the greenback reissues should have been weren't, and no farting out at high volumes. I had one in a 1x12 that used with my Carmen Ghia and it was sweet. If you like loud and lots of everything..Eminence Tonker or Celestion Century neo.
Okay, I'll shut up now.

thats a good way to put it, I have a Tonker in my 38, and it is "lots of everything"....exactly.

Greenback is definately good- no argument there. I also like mine with a Fender vibe so I run a Weber 12F150. Sounds great. FWIW I found the Emi R,W&B to bee too bassy.

Weber also makes a 1265, which happens to sound pretty awesome with the Galaxie.
I've got to try a 6V6 amp, but I don't think I want to hold out for the Z-fest prototypes that the Doc hinted at.

I love mine with my Z-Best and also the convertible 1X12 with a G12H30. I tried a Dr. Z 4X10 out at Willcutt's and it was *killer*. I have not tried the the convertible with Z's 10's (the 2X10).

+1 on the Greenback, sounds great. Tried the V30 and didn't like it - seemed harsh to me.

Yeah I'm playing all my heads through a V30 right now and they all sound a little harsh I'm looking for a good all around speaker to swap into my 1x12 Z cab. I'm guessing a Celestion Gold or Greenback would be a good one?

...i'm using my 1-12 Greenback loaded combo with a DR Z 1-12 extension cab loaded with a Tonker (G-12H 30 clone...kinda)...i'm diggin it...the Tonker is more efficient with more bottom end oomph and its inherent brightness is somewhat tamed by the Greenback....its really huge sounding....

Just ordered a Weber Ceramic 1225 today for a custom cabinet and my Z28 head. I had a V30 and like everyone says, seemed harsh in that cab. I hope I like this one!

if for some reason you don't like it and I haven't gotten rid of my Ceramic Blue Dog 50w we could trade. My B.Dog is about 75hrs old and that would be on the + side of the hours and in perfect condition.
Not that I don't like it. I want to try something different.

I hope you really like the speaker you ordered. Should be a good match.
I'm so caught up in tring to order both the 2x10 and 1x12 at the same time, but worrie about the over all $$$$$$ as it's on credit, but I found one in NY that has the 12GH30 {is that the #'s} verse the V30. Awe, it's killing me!!!!
To be honest I'm guessing the 2x10 will be plenty of sound. I just love the idea of two cabs sitting on top of each other.
