Has anyone else used this set up?\ I run my 28 with a G12H anniversary and a Avatar BB cab with 1 VIN30 and 1 G12H open back. This set up is huge sounding without having to be overly loud, and you can get extra clean headroom if you need it. Overdriven it is right on and the more you put to it the better and bigger it sounds, also tames down some high end and just gives you that "sound"....not something I would haul around all the time as the 1-12 sounds pretty damn good on its own, but when the hand calls for it or I just want to have something extra this does the job...I use it for my MAZ38 when I am playing to an audence 11 miles away and want to be sure they can hear me... All kidding aside, this set up sounds great at low volume for Jazzy cleans and soft lots of delay fingerpicking.....only drawback is having to move extra items....

Wow! You say that isn't loud? I played out last Friday with my Z28 head and just an Avatar v30/h30 cab like yours. I find this combination to be pretty loud.. as loud as my old 50 Marshall I used on Saturday! I was thinking of trying a 1X12 this weekend if I get a chance to see if it will carry, as we're in a smaller room. So you must have used a pedal to get overdrive (unless you were in a stadium)? I hope to find a 2X12 closed cab with greenbacks on fleabay to see if it's less efficient and a bit more manageable volume-wise. Has anybody done a closed Avatar cab with greenies in it?

let me clarify, it can be earth shattering loud if you want it to, but it sounds great at low volumes and gives you the big sound. I use a barber direct drive for the distortion, but I dime the treb-bass, or set them at 3 oclock depending on the guitar and use the volume knob on the amp as a master more or less, I can get overdriven sounds at a very usable volume level....but make no mistake, it will roar with the best of them with the 3-12's.....

In the early 70s Fender made a solid state Bassman. It's cab had 3x12s and was actually pretty small.

I sort of got the idea from the old Bandmaster 3/10 combos.. I have been playing it for a few days now, sort of feeling it out for a gig we have coming up. I really think that this config. will expand the sonic capabilities of the 28, but as said, the 1/12 config.sounds great too...since Ihad all the components to make it work, i figured why not"? For what its worth it sounds PDgood to me and now I can play it as a 1-12 combo, a 2-12 combo(just unhook the main speaker) or as a 3-12 combo....

I own a bunch of different cabs. It's definitely a buzz getting different sounds going by swapping stuff around!
