Hi guys. I finally get to join the club. I picked up a used Dr. Z yesterday. The rectifier tube broke during shipping though...it's the only tube I don't have extras of .

Welcome and congratulations on picking up a great amp. You've probably read this on the forum pages... the Galaxie's tone controls are very interactive with the volume controls, not only for gain but overall tonal response. IMO the Galaxie can cover fender tweed and early marshall type tones. Ya gotta work at it to get the most out of the amp but it's so rewarding. Also one or two clicks on an airbrake or brakelite gives the amp a bit more softer (spongier) feel, plus the reduced volume helps keep everyone happy. Enjoy your new amp and welcome to the Z Forum and club. It's a great place to me.

Bummer on the recto tube. :-( The Galaxie takes a 5U4 and I have a spare. It's a used, but good, RCA or GE, don't recall. If you can't get a hold of a decent replacement soon, shoot me a pm. I'll ship it to you as an "amp warming" gift. Let us know how you like it once you're back up and rocking! Eddie

Nice gesture Eddie. I know how frustrating it is to deal with shipping issues. But either way, a 5U4 is pretty easy to track down and cheap.
If you like Fender tweed sounds, but with a bit more complexity and dynamic range, you will love the Galaxie! Not to mention the high gain second channel...watch out!
If you have single coil equipped guitars, definetly try cranking the amp (and tone controls) and adjusting tones with your volume control. That kicks arse, especially with Tele's! Welcome!
