I played a gig last night, and the Z was totally silent! Tubes were glowing, but no sound. This morning I took off the back panel, took out the EF86 & the 5751 and replaced them, just for general principle. I plugged it in, and it worked fine. I let it sit for about two hours, and it still worked. I took it to a gig today and it was fine for a while, then after a bit, it went off. Tubes glowing, etc. Later, during a break, I tried the guitar thru it, and it was working fine. I played about three songs thru it, then put the guitar away. Later, I checked the guitar, and no sound! It's like it is thermalling on and off, or such. Anyone have a clue? Rectifier tube? PI tube? I just got the Delta Blues I replaced with the Z fixed. Maybe I need to take both to every gig(Blasphemy!).
If anyone has a clue, please give me some guidance! And, don't tell me to take it to my local amp guru, as the closest one is probably over 1100 miles away!
Thanks, Texas Jim

I'd replace the power tubes and if that doesn't work the rectifier. If you're still having a problem back to Dr. Z ArnieZ

After a couple of weeks of asking questions and waiting on a very long tube delivery, I replaced the rectifier tube with a JJ Tesla, and the amp works fine. damn!, it's been a long two weeks without the Z-28!
Two gigs this weekend, so I'll get a chance to really test it.
You know, Dr. Z's advice is to budget a new set of tubes when you buy a used amp, and his words were very true!
Best, Texas Jim
