Hey guys, I'm in a tight spot. I am getting a Z-28 but I am torn between the 2-10's or 1-12. I can't play one, because I live nowhere near a dealer and I am very anxious.
I'm looking for a good bass response and good highs but a really fat and sweet tone. I really play alot of Phish, which IMO Trey Anastasio is a muscial genious. I love a deluxe reverb's tone when it breaks up but the bass flabs out.
Can someone help me pick a speaker set-up for a really smooth distortion and good overall tones.
Thanks,Gavin

If you get the 2 x 10 you can't do much tweaking but Z's 10"s are killer. There are lots of good 12s to pick from. I'm sold on my Tone Tubby but others aren't so YMMV. Eminence has a boatload of 'em to choose from and they are nicely priced.

If you decide on the 2x10, I have one for sale. It's in beautiful shape, sounds amazing and comes with a nice cover (Man I just got it a few months ago!). I'm in a forced financial sale here due to nearly $2k bill from the doggy hospital. Our poor puppy we just saved two weeks ago from the pound got the Parvo virus and barley lived through it. She's mostly o.k. now and will be fine in a few weeks - so it's all worth it. Anyway, if interested, let me know and I'll offer a very fair price along with a bunch of pictures before I slap it up on ebay. derek_gaertner@yahoo.com

If I had it to do over again, I would have gotten a head/cab instead of a combo. It would be nice to have 2 different cabs for different volume requirements...maybe a 1/12 Greenback for lower volume and 2/12 with more efficient speakers for the louder stuff...maybe even a Zbest for the most volume judging from what Ive read on this hyere forum

Yep, great advice RC, i definately second the head cab rig. Its gonna allow alot more options for ya. I always tend toward 2 speaker combos, cause i find that 1-12's can be beamy sometimes, and i like the spread of two speaks. that being said a previous post was correct in that you'll have much less speaker options if you go with 10's, hence the sound advise to go with a head/cab rig. Caveat: the 10's do sound great tho!

See, now I wish I'd have gotten the 1x12 combo (in addition to my old style 1x12 cab) for 'grab and go' ease.

I think my Z28 sounds better with the Z 10's than with the 12" Greeback it originally came with
