Hey guys, out of a 1-12, 2-10, or 4-10 combo Z-28 which sounds the loudest. Also does the 2-10 lack in bass, and in the 1-12 department, how does it compare to a Deluxe Reverb's tone.
I love the sound of a Deluxe Reverb cranked so can someone tell me how a Z-28 compares. I am looking at a Z-28 because I heard it was a better replica, but with more gain and dynamics.
Thanks, Gavin

A Z-28 is in every way a better amp than a Deluxe Reverb. Bass doesn't flab out and the highs don't ice pick. A Z-28 will be louder though.

You'll love the Z-28, Fendery tone all the way when it's clean and a beautiful distortion when cranked. Go with a head and cab rig. That way you can grab a different cab depending on the gig/room. I really like mine with my Z 1X12 cab with a g12h30. Good luck!!

According to Dr Z the 4X10 is 3db louder than the 2x10, my 4X10 is very loud! ArnieZ

The 2X10 cab is noticeably darker than the 4X10 cab as well. Ext cabs that is, I have no experience with this amp as a 2X10 or 4X10 Combo. The 4X10 is great, it's going to be my next cab I purchase.

Hi Gavin, it may be just semantics, but to my ear, i wouldn't characterize the 28 as a "replica" per say, of a Deluxe. I suppose the comparison is valid partly because its a 6v6 amp, and it does have a Fendery quality at times. But,.... i find them fairly different amps actually. Considering them cranked, i agree with others that the 28 is superior, better bass responce, highs that are easy to tame, and the biggy to me is that it has Mids! The 28, IMHO does not cop the glassy fendery clean thing, that a black face deluxe, in particular, would have. But of course, its not trying to either!! The 28 does have better and more gain availible and you are correct that it has better dynamics. The EF86 front end is incredibly touch sensitive combined with the rest of the circuit. So if your considering the comparison on the basis of being Cranked, you'll be "VERY" pleased by the 28!!! If you need or want that black face, notched mid, glassy clean thing, then sometimes only a fender will do. I can tell ya tho, that in any case the 28 WILL NOT disapoint!!! Simply one of the best amps ever made. As far as volume is concerned, generaly to a point, more speakers = more volume. I found the 4-10 combo quite a bit louder than the 2-10. And my 4-10 is LOUD !! Very adequate for small to mid size clubs, depending on your band of course. I also have to agree with a previous post about getting a head/cab rig. After having a 66, i totally appreciate the abilty to load in with a small light head, and bring a cab that suits the venue. Anyway, a Deluxe reverb it isnt,...but, it DOES have enough fender qualities to please in that dept., AND,... it morphs into a thick, mid rich, snarling beast when its dimed out!! For crankin or just a little "hair" on the notes, to the dynamics, to the abilty to handle pedals of all sorts, there is no contest for me,..... the 28 wins, hands down !! - Lou

The 4x10 with the Z28 is a lot louder than my old Deluxe Reverb & as others have said the tone is more Brown Deluxe than Blackface.
