putting a couple of 10" Kendrick blackframe speakers in an open back cab I am building to pair with the Z28 I have. I am currently playing it through a closed-back over-sized 2x12 loaded with eminence Private Jacks. The Z sounds killer through the 2x12 by the way. Have any of you played your Z28 through the 10" Kendricks? I play mostly blues and classic rock stuff.
Oh, and hello everyone...and, just so you know...I LOVE MY Z28!

I've got a pair of Kendrick 10s in my Brown Fender Super. They sound great. I'm sure they'd be nice with the Z28.

I have a bud that had the Kendrick 10's in his BF Vibrolux and didn't like 'em, said they were real bassy and had the original Oxfords reconed. I could check and see if he wants to part w/ 'em if you're interested and put you two in touch, Slippery.

I'd think bassy speakers in a Vibrolux would be just the ticket.

Oxfords are what's in my Blackface Vibroluxe. They are adequate but that's about it. I was never too thrilled with Fender's choice for stock speakers, except the Jensen's were ok. The Utah's and the Oxfords always seemed to be spikey. I have a Blonde Bassman that somebody put Jensen Vibranto speakers in, probably after blowing the originals. Thsoe are supposed to be great speakers but I haven't plugged them up in about 10 years.

Well, I changed my mind (that's what we gear hounds do, right). I ordered a pair of 10" Emi Ragin Cajuns. I'll give you all a tone report when I get them installed. I have a pair of the Emi Governers in one cab, a pair of Emi Private Jacks in another...they are great speakers fo the money. I got the Ragin Cajuns for ~$100.00 with free shipping. Hopefully I will have the cabinet finished this weekend.

FWIW I recently picked up a Kenbdrick 118 (Tweed Champ) which has a 8" Black Frame in it. As a whole, this little amp is a tone monster! Kendrick builds a great product and I've spoken to him personally on the story behind the Black Frame speakers. You might look in the Mini Z section to see what Myles had to say about Kendrick and see if that helps you any with your decision.

Like I stated earlier I actually have three Kendick 10s and I do like them. However the Blackframe 12" is another story. I have a lot of respect for Gerald Weber but his original sales pitch/description of the 12" speakers is pretty far off the mark. I have 2 of them so I know that I bought because of that description. I bought them when he was having a two for one sale, $130 for the pair. His desription was that they were the most efficient speaker and big bottom etc.. Well they are not that efficient, certainly not as efficient as a JBL or EV. The bass is pretty flabby and indistinct. The high end reminds me most of a Vintage 30. I will say they sound cool for specific things. I had one in a Reverend Hellhound for a while and it made it sound kind of like a JTM45. That'll give you an inkling of how much they color the sound. Now they sit unused and don't have much resale value.

Hmm...wonder how they'd sound in a BF Twin? What's the impedance and wattage rating on 'em? I have a couple of original (reconed w/ a vintage 30 kit) Vox Blue Bulldogs in an old Twin I haven't used much since my Z 'conversion' about 10 years ago :^) and might wanna put 'em in a 2X12 cab...
