How similar or different is the tone control on the Monza vs the Ghia? The 1x10 sure looks like a nice/easy to carry rig. Are the notes as 3D as they are on the Ghia?

i stopped into the guitar store on saturday where I'd purchased my 1x12 (blue loaded) ghia back in October and I played through the Monza. I didn't get much playing time, so I don't think i can speak from experience... i just was told that the tone stack and control is the same as on the Ghia and a quick dialing of the knob seemed to reflect that fact. All I can say is that the added drive knob really added some teeth to the Ghia's already gorgeous tone. If I'd had the Ghia in hand, it's very likely I'd have traded on the spot. Also, the 1x10 combo's weight seemed dramatically lighter than the 1x12 ghia. I actually thought about you when i played this and was going to post a message suggesting you seek out and try one of these amps.

Superb easy-to-carry package with great tone and depth. I don't have a Ghia, so I can't do a comp for you. I think the Brake Lite is really important. There's limited cleanish headroom -- you don't buy a Monza for pristine cleans. Unless you're running flat out, the BL gives flexibility to keep the tone on the clean end of the scale while upping the overall output level.

comment from the store staff where i tried the amp were that the Monza has more clean headroom than the ghia. as we were talking, someone plugged into the monza in the next room and it was so loud that at first we thought they were running a 50-watt marshall head into a 4x12 cab... but it was just the Monza.

a follow-up message from a guy i met at the guitar store last weekend. turns out we're both Les Paul guys and we both own the 1x12 ghia but were both impressed by the monza and the store owner gave us both a price for trading in our ghia's against the monza. fortunately, i live too far away to run home and bring my ghia back so i was able to take the time to consider my financial/amp situation carefully and decided I'll wait a bit before doing anything. Here's what the guy wrote to me in email just now: "Hi Ian. I'm blown away by the Monza. Used it at rehearsal. The tone knocks me out and it cuts through the mix. Love the clean tones. Makes my guitar sound like itself, if ya know what I mean. The little thang is HUGE! I took one home with me and ordered another blond one so I could run 'um stereo. It turns out I may need to sell one. If so, someone's going to get a deal on a new monza. Love to jam sometime. Jack"
:-) Yeah, it's a killer sounding amp in a light and easy to carry package.

I think the 1x10 combo might be pretty cool. I have no issue with clean headroom using the Ghia wide open and turning down my guitar volume. I also get plenty of gain with my LP straight in. If the Monza can get pretty close to the Ghia's tone (I don't really need more gain) in a smaller/lighter package I might have to look into one. My Ghia is staying, it may get a little brother. ;D Thanks for the report on the tone control.

The Monza Tone Control and the Carmen Ghia are different. The Ghia has that "wah" type and the Monza is a typical tone control.

So, are you saying that the tone control simply rolls of the highs?
