Thats a "DOG" of an act!!! I wonder if it was the Z'28 that I played and decided it wasn't the amp for me. There can't be too many in Australia. I was going to buy tele62's (Curt's) and then this guy shows up at a gig in town with one, I just couldn't believe it. I played it and found it very compressed like a dirtier fender deluxe. It was nice but seemed to suit a bucker more than a single coil. i mainly play a strat-tele so alas it wasn't for me but thats n ot to say it ain't for you TAS'. It was lucky that I got to try one as living down under in Australia the last 2 Z's were bought on the hype. I'm just lucky that they both lived up to what I was looking for and then some! My next amp will without a doubt be a KT45.I just love the big sound,I'm saving my pennies,it'll come.........if youre up this way around X'mas visiting your sister drop in,not sure if it will be to your liking but they say the KT45/Route 66 is an excellent combination. Yep, that would definately be a killer combination! I really wanted a Z28, one, to play the cover gigs and save my route 66 loaded with the GEC's and other goodies just for "my" gigs. And two I think I could utilize it into my originals rig as well, maybe in stereo. I think it would kill with my 'buckers and also with the lower wattage I might be able to turn it up and work it a little more than the 66, for the covers. Anyway, at least I'll get to try it soon enough. I had a talk with the offender today, explained how rare they are in general, let alone Australia, and how I'd wanted one for about 3 years. Told him I never would have told him if I knew he'd turn around and do that. Didn't seem to change anything. He said he walked into the local music shop and the guys in there said he was "banned" from the shop! ;D We've got a mothers day dinner tomorrow so I see what the vibe is! I live way below the poverty line so I just haven't been able to justify it but this was just too great a bargin so I would have slapped it on the old credit card. By the way, the amp was from Illawara or Woolongong so don't know if it was the same one but I wouldn't be suprised. Here it is. cgi.ebay.com.au/Dr-Z-Z28-Head-Quad-Box-with-Heavy-Duty-Road-Cases_W0QQitemZ7412375616QQcategoryZ10171QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItemThanks for the offer Groover, it's a great insentive to get up there. (Not to mention how cold it's getting down here) My parents are visiting her at the moment and Dad's been swimming every day!

He said he walked into the local music shop and the guys in there said he was "banned" from the shop! ;D We've got a mothers day dinner tomorrow so I see what the vibe is! Hey Taz... My question for You is what if he now comes onto the forum... ( I wouldn't after I did that but HE might)... Your OUR Z brother so how would YOU want us to treat him.... I don't think he should be "Banned" from the forum or anything, but do you want us to scold him some.... I think everyone would be cool about it and NOT ugly/nasty cause I would not want THAT on THIS forum but.... ( reading this in a scratchy muffled godfatherish voice...) I would think ALL the guy's would give him a good "Welcome" for you.... and help him understand the err of his way's.... DON'T mess with one of our Family! ;D ( and don't answer your door if the guy's name is "Vito" from New Jersy by way of Texas!) Don Jason Corleone BTW has anyone seen my Horses head layin around anywhere?

BAD BROTHER IN LAW......
BTW ....... Any of you z boys have a nice, single Z sister? This website is becoming a whole little world of its own........only seems right I could use it to meet my future mz jamz.......on the Z website in addition to learning which rectifier will make my Rt 66 sound the best........
I'd be AN HONEST BROTHER IN LAW!............and we could share Z's..........
Sorry, I am getting stir crazy being cooped up during this midwest rainout!

Bummer Jaye. As you pointed out he probably didn't realize the pain and suffering he's caused. Not to mention the psychiatric bills, the cost of the drugs and alcohol and eventual rehab that you'll need to get buy until another Z-28 comes your way. Perhaps one of those dangerous Aussie critters will bite him??? It's odd how those things can get into ones house. I'd like to hear how your 66 sounds thought the z 4x10 if and when you get a chance to play it. Off the subject... What ever happened to Phil Emmanual? I hear of Tommy frequently. I liked Phil's work on Kakadu Sunrise but have not been exposed to his later works. Does he perform in your neck of the woods? drew

Yeah Phil is a killer player! I think he's still out and about.
JGleaton Corleone... ;D Will FedEx ship horses heads?
James, My sister is a good catch but the legistics are probably too complicated. However, if Groovergeorge is single I could set them up and have ANOTHER brother in law with Z amps!
I'll be sure to give the Z28 a good going over with my Zbest and the 4-10 box plus my amp through the 4-10. I think my friend will probably bring his Badcat over as well so should be an interesting day. Although I may have to call up those hitmen!
As for him joining the forum, I think it would be a good thing. He would probably get all Gassed up for the 'Ray and sell me Z28! And yes, I would expect him to get a bit of a "friendly welcome" from the Z-crew, all in good humor of course! Looking forward to the shootout and Curt, I promise I won't hit the standby till they're all past 3 oclock! ;D

Bro in law checked out the forum, said he is expecting a Horses Head for Christmas...in July! ;D I really am happy he has a great rig. Good way to get me going to all his gigs too! I won't be missing out hearing Z's around the place. Plus, I have a CD to release... Anyone have a major in marketing?

- just so i'm not recognised. he he! well, i thought i'd drop in and say hi. yes i'm the guy with a z 28 head and 4x10 cab. i know you probably dont care but here's a bit of my end of the story. as tas said "he lives below the poverty line". i had just sold my amp so i was all cashed up and ready to go and nothing to play though. there was more chance of me getting it and more chance of both of us getting to use it. i guess you could say when i got it i had both of us in mind. he's had it this weekend, played it first, heard it first and will be gigging it first. i said he can use it when ever. sorry tas - share the Z love around...anyone found that horses head yet?

Well we just had a great time putting the Rt66, Z28 and mini through their paces with the Zbest and the Dr Z 4-10 cab this afternoon. I'll write a very detailed report later but I'll just preface it to say it is a sweet, sweet amp and sounds exactly like I thought it would. I am wrapped that "thevillan" has a great rig. It's awesome having more Z's around the place! Now Mr Villan, you just have to get the "STANGRAY" and run it in stereo with the Z-28 an Echoczar and you will be SMOKING!!!! I have sore cheeks from smiling all day!

Thanks RC, yes, my apologies, I'm probably just getting older, bitter and grumpy about other facets of the music industry and undeservedly took it out on poor ol' villan. I just need to shut up and work a bit harder! I have a tune called "Mantra" and the chorus goes "Shut up and get on with it". I think I need to heed my own advice sometimes!

Hi everybody. I am a Z28 newbie. I bought Curt’s Z28 head a few weeks ago and have resisted writing a honeymoon report until some serious playing. It seems like this thread is a good one when it comes to talking about the tone of the Z28. After two band practices and a gig yesterday, the honeymoon’s still happening. This is a seriously great amp! I also have a Maz Jr. 2 x10, which is a good amp for comparison.
I play the Z28 through a Mesa 1/3 1X12 open cab with a Celestion Black Shadow in it. Not generally crazy about the Black Shadows, but the combination of the amp and the cab sounds good nevertheless. To me this amp is the ultimate Strat amp. I love my Maz Jr. with both single coils and buckers, but this amp just nails it for me with the Strat. The overdriven tone is thick and juicy, which is sometimes hard to achieve with Strats. And, no it doesn’t need reverb; it is there sort of in the three dimensional tone already.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Curt for shipping the amp up here to the great white north. I guess we Canadians don’t know all the additional paperwork that’s involved when shipping out of the USA. The amp is mint, thanks Curt!

hey, found that horses head. he was looking a bit worse for wear. you know how it is, jet lag, being stuck under a bed and having no food...poor guy. i'll bring him back to full heath and send him on his way again. ...the whole amp thing, well, possibly some long term scaring but it seems to be resolving. due to some miss understanding and lack of communication i ended up buying it...cause i had a fat wallet at the time. unfortunately like every muso i have that gear lust disease as well. WHEN WILL THEY FIND A CURE! yeah, tas said i was some "big time" christian...dunno about big time more like...not, we're all prone to making mistakes...the only thing perfect i'm gonna get close to is the tone of a z 28. God bless the Dr.

Well...Tas, that's a great story and evidently with a happy ending. I've been out of circulation for quite a while over here, but I just had to drop in to mention that I think you've handled this admirably. And that thevillan joined in, welcome aboard! Both of you seem to have worked this out with great respect. As soon as the board permits, I'll shoot some karma into your hemisphere. Cheers! Terry

" We can rebuild him.... we have the technology." I did a quick search and found this narration and thought you'd like to read it: "Steve Austin, astronaut. A man barely alive. Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to build the world's first bionic man. Steve Austin will be that man. Better than he was before. Better, stronger, faster." I used to love The Six Million Dollar Man. Wonder how much he would cost these days... Let's ask Barry Bonds! Hehehe!

You know I used to love that show too,
and they've made alot of other cool old tv shows into movies and THAT would be a very cool one.... course I don't think anyone would want to see Steve Austin fighting BIGFOOT.... PETA would probably have a fit if BIGFOOT got hurt! ;D ;D
hey if you don't mind insert that disclaimer for me about how NO animals were harmed during the writing of this thread...
ummm, on second thought, no animals were harmed EXCEPT for the Horse.... I don't think we can really get around that one, but we are trying to REUNITE (so to speak) him with his body so they've gotta give us some credit for that...
and thevillan is gonna feed him an apple before he sends him back; so theres that... he just can't SWALLOW it until he gets back home to his body....
"...reunited and it feeeels so good!"
