As alot of you know, I have been gassing over a Z28 for a long time now but can't really justify getting one from the States when I already have the Rt66. By the time you pay for currency coversion, Fed Ex International shipping, GST sales tax (10%) and import duty on the total (10%) it becomes a very expensive amp Well a Z-28 and 4-10 Zcab with flight cases turned up on Aussie Ebay for an extremely reasonable price. I started thinking, "if I sell some speakers, some rack gear, guitars,) etc etc. If I was gonna get one within the near future it was now. My Brother in Law was looking for a speaker box to go with the Orange head he was about to buy. I called him and said I could sell him a Dr Z 4-10 box as I was going to bid on the Z items. He calls me up and asks me about the Z28 head, and I of course blab about how awesome I think it will be. A couple hours later I check the listing and ITS GONE!!!! My brother in law has nabbed it off ebay right from under my nose! Talk about pissed off. So...Whilst I will undoubtedly get to hear it and try my RT66 through a Z 4-10, my shot at the much longed for Z28 is gone again. Man! Guess I just need to get off my @rse and make more money and buy a new one. So I'm still just a "lurker" in the Z28 section!

Man, I hardly know what to say about that....................dirty pool man. Like you said, you'll at least get to hear it in the near future, so there's a bit of silver lining. But I'm afraid when you do the GAS is going to be a lot worse. Sorry bro, I've been pulling for ya to get one of these. Here's some Karma for hangin in there.

Tas, I's sorry to hear that. I have been eye'n a blonde Z-28 4X10 combo at my Z dealer. I haven't played through it cause I know I will be selling stuff or trading my Mazerati or something stupid. I couldn't carry that thing alone. I would rather get a head and the 4X10 cabinet anyway. Too bad someone couldn't order what you want in the states and then ship it to you. It could save you come taxes right? In the states one does not pay sales tax when shipping to a different state. I would wait a while, play through your brother-in-law's Z-28. Then blackmail him or something. Just kidding LOL. Seriously, maybe you will have a different opinion of the amp in a month or two.

I guess the really annoying thing is that he is a big time christian who will play mainly in church. Do unto others, I know I wouldn't do that to someone. But it's a dog eat dog world out there, all's fair in love, war and gear! My lady says I'm too trusting of people. Anyway, I'm sounding like a sore loser. But he better let me use it on a gig or two.

That could be very cool too. I'll get a brand spankin' new one from Doc when I can afford it. Or maybe a Ghia, or maybe a ray or maybe a................. ;D

You can be a sore loser on this. I say you had first right of refusal since you told him about it and you are family and if he wanted it that bad he should have got your permission. It's a respect thing. Now all you can really do is chalk it up to experience but it will probably affect your attitude towards him even if you don't let it show, which you can't. It's not clear from your original post if you told him you were going for it or not. If you just raved but didn't tell him you were going to bid on it then I guess it was up for grabs.

No, I told him I was going to get it but I knew he needed a cab and that the 4-10 would be a beauty and that I would sell it to him! When he started asking me about the amp I joked that he would probably just pinch it out from under me now that I'd told him about it, but I didn't think he really would. He started asking about the head and I was like...well you can't have the head, I'm keeping that! Next thing you know I look at he's hit the "buy now" option.

We'll hope he's short of cash soon and will need to sell you the amp. Definitely would have twisted my undies, however. There are a few of us who chase the same guitars, and usually when one of us sees one the first one to scream "MINE" has priority...
Maybe you can borrow the head and not remember where you put it <GRIN>

I've been trying to talk him into a SRay for the last couple months as he likes the vox sound and he complained he couldn't afford it so I think he just jumped at the chance to own an affordable Z. In other words, he ain't selling it to me!
Well I've got a great rig and now he does too so I'm happy for him. Someday I will learn "nice guys finish last"! Does cousin Tony do international gigs? ;D

This does not surprise me at all. The only screwing I've ever taken on a deal is from a guy just like that. Probably sits in the front row every Sunday, too.
Hopefully something cool down the road will come out of the whole deal....ya' never know. Karma is a very real thing.

I wish my brother-in-law would learn a trade, so I would know what kind of work he's out of.
My brother-in-law was a lifeguard in a car wash.
My brother-in-law then opened a tall man's shop in Tokyo.
My brother-in-law then bought 1000 Japanese cameras. They all go "Crick".
My other brother-in-law died. He was a karate expert, then joined the army. The first time he saluted, he killed himself.
Thank you, Henny Youngman....Hang tough, Jaye.

My brother in-law plays Bluegrass or Heavy Metal. Luckily, for me, he doesn't own an electric guitar.

You should 'rent' the mini to him instead of letting him borrow it. And it's bad he didn't have the 'twins' to ask you himself.

No, he's my lady's younger brother. We get along really well and he's a great guy, I think in all fairness he just doesn't know much about Dr Z amps and probably thinks they are alot more common than they are. He probably thinks that they are everywhere in the states and it will be easy for me to get another. That's my guess, I'm sure he thought it was kinda funny that he swiped it from me. I forgot to mention that the it was the second listing and the first didn't get a bid. He dropped 400 on the total so it ended up starting at around 1700 US for a 2003 Z28 and Dr Z 4-10 cab both with heavy duty flight cases. It was a bargain. That's about what it would cost me for the head alone from the States.

I think you should talk to him once you've sorted out what you need to tell him about the ethics involved. Perhaps he'll sell you the head, or maybe you will just have the satisfaction of knowing you turned him on to Z amps and helped him get one. I'm thinking this is going to work out.

Or just wait 'til he needs the money....Fire sale! 10 cents on the dollar! Normally I wouldn't feel good about buying something from a friend or relative that way, but given the circumstances....

Tas, I don't care how you slice it thats NOT cool... I know he's your brother in law but all the more reason you just don't do that to someone... I'm with Propellr in that I think you should have a nice little conversation about ethics with him, cause if he doesn't know any better... then next time he might pull something like that, it might be someone else and he could LOSE a friendship or band member over something stupid like that... it'll work out between you guy's... and bet you'll end up with the head down the road anyway... and maybe it'll turn him onto DR Z's and he can get that new Stangray he needs after he sells you the Z-28/ 4-10 cab at the brother-in- law discounted rate...
