I have a Z-28 head that I'm running into a Avatar 2x12 open back cab with Clestion Lead80's.I haven't had the amp for very long.I noticed that it's a little bright with my Teles and when I turn down the treble I lose mids and gain.I've also tried a blue/G12H combo with the same results.I don't know how to tame the highs w/o losing gain and upper mids.I was thinking about trying a pair of greenback. What do you guys recommend?

My 1/12 combo and tele sounds sweet with a Greenback...nice chimey sound without being harsh at all...click the link in my signature to hear some songs with this setup. The Greenback breaks up nicely and allows you to crank the amp. I'm primarily a country player so Im about to put an Eminence Private Jack in mine...which is supposed to be a Greenback style speaker but much more efficient/louder.
I might have other suggestions if I knew what tele/pickups you have and how you set the amp...what pedals, etc, etc.

I might have other suggestions if I knew what tele/pickups you have and how you set the amp...what pedals, etc, etc. I'm using a Relic Tele with GVCG Lollar pickups. I'm using a COT50, Barber Tone Press, AM modded Maxon SD-9, AM Clone Chorus, Demeter Trem, RC Booster, AM DD-3 delay. I'm setting the amp with the treble between 11:00 - 2:00 and the Bass 10:00 - 12:00.I run the volume between 12:00 and full.I'm a country guitar player.I hope this is enough info. Nice playing and tone in your clips rerecilius.I'm going to try Greenbacks Thanks

bwags, I thought I'd add this to the discussion...over the weekend, I put some different saddles on my tele...it had all Brass and I changed them out for Heat Treated Steel saddles. I liked the sound of the low strings better...it was a subtle change but a good one. Now, on the E/B strings...OMG, I couldnt hardly stand to play them they were so bright! When I got home from the gig, I immediately put the brass saddle back on the E/B. If you're using anything besides Brass on the E/B strings, that may be a source of over-brightness.
Curt, Are you so happy with the Maz that you dont need anything else?

Now your just rubbing salt in the wound Curt! ;D Unless I get a sudden windfall, any new gear is an impossibility!
I can think of many positives to adding it to the arsenal:
Small/medium room amp Great Stereo rig with both Z28 and Rt 66 clean Larger room, Rt 66 dirty, Z28 clean A/B. Both Cranked in Stereo, big room or outdoor! Yeah!
I played a gig on the weekend using the airbrake which I haven't done in that particular band. Had the 66 on twelve Oclock across the board and the brake on 2. I imagine a Z28 would be a similar volume around volume 1 oclock and tones around 3, which would be perfect!

I havent played a 66 but, I think 2 Z28's would be pretty darn sweet too... A/B - 1 Z28 with Greenback for overdrive, 1 w/a more efficient speaker for cleans... Stereo - same speaker config but match them in volume so you'd have 1 dirtier than the other...might be fun Outdoors - run both with an efficient speaker as loud as you can get em!
