I haven't had the opportunity to personally try out this amp. I wanted something with the old bassman personality - you know, kind of like the old Gibbon's tone we all love. I was kind of wondering how clean this amp is. At what level does it start to break up? I would be using the amp predominately for studio use. The clips on the website were either clipping or had some "hair" in them. Is there any bell like clean to be had? Or do I really need to get the RT 66 to get the best of both worlds? I really don't want to get the Rt 66, cab & attenuator - as I feel it may be a little overkill, but if realistically the Z-28 doesn't fit the mark, I may have to. Any input or suggestions? Thanks...

Welcome! I have some Z28 clips posted over in the Sounds forum...none of the clips really display the bell like clean you are looking for...theyre all kinda hairy I think the Z28 can get very good clean tones though...the key is how you set the tone controls...anything past 12 oclock and they start acting more like gain knobs. With the volume high and the tone controls low, it has a very chimey Deluxe/Princeton sound to it. It isnt very loud at that setting (to me anyway...mine has a Greenback) but in a studio setting that shouldnt matter much.

Thanks for the reply. I have a Carr Rambler for cleans anyway, but was just wondering the potential for the Z-28. I'll be sure to check out your clips.

Mine has more than enough clean head room, in fact too much for me. RC is right on the money, for your studio stuff dime the volume and keep the tones low, they will acy as seperate volumes and clean spank is pretty impressive like that, this thing can be seen as having three gain knobs. or three volume knobs, or any combination of the two, really unique tone stack. After a talk with Myles yesterday I plan on different 6V6's and a rebias for a "lil mo nasty"

Terry I have an air brake, I've oreded the #2's so we'll see how that works out. My Z/28 is a head. I bought a 1x12 combo cab from Uncle Pat and had the 28 in there but the Ghia is in it now.

Sounds cool! I've got NOS RCA 6V6GTYs in my Z28 right now, at about 26mA....mmmmmm, like hot chunky chocolate chip cookies. I gotta say, though, the GT 6V6Rs that came out (they were seeing 354V, 33mA) sounded killer too. I think they were #5 or #6. So much current, so little time.
