I'm very interested in the monza, but have a few concerns. I love that it can shell out a good bit of gain, my only question is the monza a brighter sounding amp like the maz jr? I prefer a slighly darker overdrive than most? Can you get the monza to do a darker kind of overdrive or is it voiced on the bright side? Thank you for the responses and sorry for all of the questions. Much appreciated, Cheers!

With the right speakers and guitars. The only way know for sure is to test play it.

I don't find it overly bright going through a K100 or a Veteran 30 112 playing a Strat with HSS and a EC 1000 with 81/60 EMG's. Its not brighter than my DSL50 or my Vox Night Train using the same speakers and guitars. I hate ice pick highs or any treble harshness too.

I've played through the Maz NR for the last few years with a classic rock band. 2 electric guitars, bass, drums,. I just gigged with my new Monza(10"w/brake lite) last week. Here's some reflections: I play tele's or a PRS johnny hiland(similar to tele sound but with humbuckers). Maz 18= I run the brake lite on 2, vol-full out/master vol-full out, treb/mid full out, bass 9:00, cut 9:00. I control tone and vol from the guitar. Monza= brake lite 2, vol 12:00 to 3:00, gain 12:00 to 3:00, tone full out treble.
Surprisingly, this wasn't too much treble on the Monza. Also, I find the 10" speaker to be a little boxy in the bedroom at full 4 on brake lite and 9:00 vol but found no such problem at stage volume. My Maz is the one 12" speaker.
The Monza had a great grind but I could back off guitar volume and easily do old country music with no problem. Love the light weight on the Monza. I also gigged the Monza with only a tuner pedal. Might take a chorus for a little variety next time but the Monza really doesn't need it.
We mic our guitar amps on stage and run them back to us through monitors just to fatten the stage sound. The sound going to the crowd is just from the amps.
Love the Monza although I kept the Maz in case of breakdown but I could have traded in the Maz and been fine.
Hope this helps answer some questions.

Thanks guys your input is greatly appreciated. sounds like the monza should be exactly what i'm looking for. I just wanted to make sure it wasnt too bright. I liked my maz it was a smidge to bright for me and ultimatley i needed more gain, so the monza should do the trick. Once again thanks guys.

skeets,
Don't know if you saw or care to look at my post over in the MAZ 18 section about the MAZ with bypass mod. I ended up spending so much time on that that I didn't get to the direct Monza to MAZ comparison, let alone bringing the Remedy into the picture.
I envy kendog being able to crank his amps -- my bandmates are sort of volume wimps. I think his descriptions are right on. During my MAZ testing I noticed that the MAZ can be quite bright, although you can dial that out. The Monza, especially with the Tone backed down, will be darker sounding.
You really should try one out to be sure it's to your liking, but it is certainly nearer to what you seem to want than the MAZ IMO.

Hey, welcome aboard kendog!

Thanks doctorice your insight is much appreciated. I would love to try one out, only problem is its like a 2.5 hour drive. I'll have to make it here one of these days. I did like my maz but i think your right the monza sounds more up my alley. I should prob try the remedy as well though to make sure. Decisions decisions.

hey SKEETS, dont be sorry about asking questions. that's why this forum is so wonderful !! even though we all dont agree on things, we ALL learn and benefit from it and each others opinions. and DOCTORICE , just say NO to volume whimps. my budde who plays bass is getting like that, "turn down, turn down' . isn't it bad enough we have to listen to our wives piss and moan about the volume, now we have to listen to our jam budde's whine like little sissies about it. what's this world coming too ? turning up and not only hearing the amp, but FEELING the amp, is one of the things in life that keeps me feeling like a young man again.volume in the right situations is a thing of eternal beauty !!!!!

Pete, sounds like you have a good lady there! My apologies to her... no offence intended to the female gender. Perhaps I should have said.... "quit being so tight-a$$ed, take off your your skivies and let the boys get some air!" Merks.

Does anyone know where you can buy a monza head and get free shipping? I know Humbucker Music offers free shipping. I've had good dealings with them. I suspect other authorized dealers have a similar policy.

Talk to Matt or Chris at Third Street Music in Marietta 740-373-8558. They're the closest to you. You might be able to link up with them in Columbus. I think Matt gets up there semi regularly. This is Tanner right? Marc
